If joining abs to PVC should I still use this on the PVC end before applying transition cement?

Asked by: Jj
Yes. You will want to use Primer on the PVC portion only...never on the ABS.

how long can pvc primer stay on pipe before applying glue? is it ok to use cold weather glue in 50 degree temperatures ? Thank you for your knowledge!!
Asked by: Patrick
Rule of thumb is to apply cement RIGHT AFTER applying the Primer. The Primer can look dry soon after applying, however, the solvents are still in the process of flashing off. If you applied Primer a long time before the cement (i.e. hours before) then I would reapply Primer at time of cementing the joint. Cold weather cement is fine to use in 50 degree F weather.

Is it ok to use cleaner before useing primer.

Asked by: DJ
Cleaner is a good practice to use on old or dirty pipe but really not necessary for new pipe. Primer is important as part of the welding process to use right before the application of cement. Cleaner should never be used IN PLACE of Primer.

8 oz. PVC and CPVC Purple Primer is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from horrible application, bad container. Buy a can, use it once and then throw it away, if you dare to save it in any fashion the can will leak.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fun, fancy purple stuff Goes on easy, a little dab is all you need. A great accent to your plain white PVC. Works as expected and wakes you up in the morning. Don't put your lips on it!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Must Have Product My husband is a plumber. This is his go-to product to ensure that the pipe is ready to be glued. The purple color does stain but this is important as it allows you to see where it has been applied on the pipe. Generous use of the primer both inside the pipe and outside the pipe connection area ensures that the glue will have the best chance of sealing the joint so it doesn't leak. It's good stuff.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's Purple! It cleans and "purple-lizes" your boring white PVC pipe, LOL... Good stuff, preps the pipes for cement
