Can I use This with teflon tape on natural gas fitting For better results? Or is there is better sealant for natural gas pipe fitting? Thanks

Asked by: Sam
There is a NG rated tape that you can use. However, this is better for ensuring a seal. I have used tape (ng rated) and pipe dope. Tape is cleaner, but this will give you a leak proof seal every time. It will not blow out.

Are you supposed to use Teflon tape in addition to this stuff? Or is this an alternative replacement?

Asked by: dave
It can be used with tape, but is not necessary. As long as the thread are covered, it will be threaded into the fitting filling the void space. This is the same material that has been used for decades prior to tape. I consider it to be better than tape as the tape is static and will not fill voids (imperfections) as pipe dope does.

Why does it say in the description "do not use on plastic pipe" when the bottle says you can use it on CPVC pipe and what happens if you use it on PVC

can you use this on PVC as well as CPVC ?
Asked by: BradNailer
Oil based pipe dope will soften plastic products over time losing their integrity. Not safe for PVC or CPVC

It is a very thick (grease like) material. Brush onto threads of metal pipe, tighten and no more leaks. I had several pipe threads that would not stop leaking with teflon tape. The fittings were very loose fitting and wrapping 20 times with tape still leaked. I brushed this material on and no leaks! This is what the old timers use to use with metal to metal seals. The pipe dope is so thick that it will not wash away or create a pin hole leak. I consider this to be indispensable. You will still need to use tape, O ring, or gasket for plastic fittings as oil based products will dissolve plastics over time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great stuff I've used this on pretty much all my bathrooms threaded pipes, from under the sink drainage and water supply to tub drainage and water supply, I even had to run new plumbing for the tub drainage and redid it with PVC, the original sewer line was a 1 1/2 inch cast iron pipe that was rubber strap to a brass pipe and all the way up to my tub took it all out used the dope on all the threaded joints by tub tee then the union piece that went from iron to PVC, amazing stuff haven't had one leak , great stuff to have in you tool box if your doing plumbing at home, use enough to coat the threads no need to over do it, too much will make a mess but it's easy to clean.
