Should the drain have a trap installed? If so, how close to the Outlet Box does it need to be?

Should the drain have a trap installed? If so, how close to the Outlet Box does it need to be?
Asked by: tomt
Yes you will need a p trap. It should be between 18" & 30" from the box and 6" to 18" from the floor.

What's in a box?

Does this come with 2 valves? Is it a ball valve quarter turn type? Will it fit a 1/2 in copper pipe?
Asked by: Al
this come with two valves, both are 1/4 turn ball valves yes it will work with 1/2" copper pipe, so long as you have the correct threaded adapter fitting. if you're sweating the adapter to the copper pipe, do this prior to attaching the valves so you dont damage the valve internals.

can i connect cpvc to hot water and pvc to cold water using pvc connection. Im not plumbing with copper or pex.

Asked by: wannabplumber
The washing machine box you call out is for copper sweat connection. If you adapted to CPVC and PVC then that would work but we recommend keeping consistent with the pipe material.

Quadtro 2 in. Copper Sweat Washing Machine Outlet Box is rated 3.2 out of 5 by 5.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Valve leaks! I bought this item because it uses ball valves instead of gate valves thinking it'd be less prone to leaking. After install I found out it's not the case with Oatey valves. One of the two valves leaks and of course you don't find this out until the job is pretty much done and it's not worth undoing all your work and wasting time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from No complaints, works exactly as it should I just recently installed this outlet box and can say it was a breeze. The brackets to attach to the studs first attached to the box very nicely. You need some force to get them attached to the box but nothing a normal pair of hands can't handle. After that, one screw through each one is plenty to hold it in place. The valves are already attached to the plastic plug pieces that then attach it to the box. You will need two 1/2" female adapters. To avoid any possibility of melting anything, solder the extensions to a one or one and a half foot length of pipe, let that cool,, and then attach it to the valves with some pipe dope. After that you can snake it through the holes in the box and click it in place. Leave the valves open so when soldering the rest of your connections the heat can escape. Once all was hooked up, the moment of truth - I turned the water back on and no leaks whatsoever. Valves turn very easily on and off, and when off they are off, no dribble at all. I can't speak for the experiences of the other reviewers, but I'm a regular DIYer not afraid to do my own plumbing and this gave me the no-headache install, finished look and easy access I was looking for.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from First box melted, second box worked well... I have intermediate plumbing skills and wish the directions said to sweat a 6-8 inch extension to the valves before connecting them to the supply lines. For the first box I tried to connect the valves directly to the supply lines, but I melted the bottom of the plastic box and deformed it. After reading other postings online, I realized that I should have added extensions to the valves outside of the box first, before installation. I did this with the second box and it seemed to work fine - no melting.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Washing Machine Outlet Box I've ever used! It is exceptionally well designed! The materials are of a high quality, it's a rugged box, the valves are high quality and the wall straps and front bezel allow a perfect fit!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Difficult to install Purchased the Oatey Quadtro box and when I got home I realized the valves were not facing straight forward and ended up being at an angle. Wanted to install the mounting brackets onto bare studs before drywall and could not get the brackets to go in far enough. Looked for an instructions manual but none was included other than how to screw in the valves. Could not find any documentation or video on their site or else where to show how to install using their brackets. I am going to return the product. Won't buy Oatey products again.
