Can this product be used to join conduit lengths while THWN cable is present in the conduit?

Does this product harm the cable insulation covering THWN wire?
Asked by: dracpa
Yes it can. Have not seen any negative reviews or results to any conflicts with any wire classifications. I have used this glue to fit grey conduit PVC for high and low voltage cable. With no negative results.

IF, you know what you are doing and read the label this adhesive will work for you. I have used Oatey products for years and have never been dissatisfied. Rain or shine will adhere in wet conditions. I highly recommend it for any PVC pipe application. If it works under wet conditions then it can be trusted for normal conditions.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Good only if wet Conditions I only use this glue under 2 circumstances, there is some light rain or drizzle, or if there is a chance some water will flow onto the joint inside (not under pressure) while it is curing. It does not tend to coat the pipe before assembly as readily as regular grey pvc glue. Use the regular cement if at all possible but never if any water present, joint will fail.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Rain-R-Shine - strong hold in no time wet or dry I could not completely shut the water down, thus water was slowly oozing out of the pvc pipe. I could for a minute plunge out the water, but it would resurface back into the pvc pipe. I worked quickly after emptying the water, and this cement held strong. You have to hold the two pieces together for 10-15 seconds, and the cement held even after getting wet quickly. I originally tried it with the clear cement, that did not work.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Perhaps not for PVC Sch 30 Drainage Pipes??? Used this for a footer drain w/ all pvc piping I used oatley primer and than this and fittings are merely glued together by a thin rather flaky layer? I know this because a few fittings popped loose while gently working with connections downstream. There's no "welding". I liked the idea of this for the quick dry times, but it was a waste of time going back to re-glue loose fittings. I had clean pipe, primed, and than a normal layer of glue. Pipes should be able to withstand gentle flexing without coming loose!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Avoid of at all possible This cement is much thicker then regular PVC cement. It does not coat as well but also, it does not hold as well. I used it in an area that was a little wet and the seal blew out twice. I dried off the area and waited. I then used regular cement and it held just fine. Also, the cure time on this glue is 24 hours as opposed to about 30 minutes with regular glue. Glue should be placed on dry PVC pipe anyway (otherwise the primer won't stick either). The PVC pipe is then glued so the cemented areas will remain dry. I can't see much use for this type of glue.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I had no problems and it workes great I used this when I was repiping the PVC lines between my pool heater and pump. I applied the purple primer first and then used this and it worked great. I didn't have any problems with the solvent and the bonds seem to be holding up great.
