If I use this for a kitchen backsplash will the brick absorb water/grease and show wet spots?

If I use this for a kitchen backsplash will the brick absorb water/grease and show wet spots?
Asked by: Katie
This brick is very porous and, as a result, will absorb water and grease if left untreated. It's recommended that you seal your entire back splash once it's set. Sealing will prevent absorption and will prevent it from showing wet spots or grease. For areas away from "traffic," such as high on the wall or away from people, you can treat it once a decade. For areas closer to busy counter tops or behind/near a cooking surface, you'll want to seal at least once ever three years. Doing this will ensure your brick back splash will outlast you.

When we started, we knew we needed to pick out a back-splash type of material, but never thought brick. Then, as the project moved along, I happened to stumble upon the Brickweb product on the HomeDepot.com site, and knew almost immediately that was the winner. The idea of a brick wall as the focal point of our kitchen was perhaps one of the best ideas of the entire kitchen remodel. The install was fairly easy with the mesh on the back. Once up and grouted into place, we sealed it and called it a day. The size of our wall and back splash warranted this to be a nearly 3 day project, but it was worth it. The Brickweb Castle Gate wall is, by far, the focal point of our entire kitchen. Would recommend this to anyone with experience in putting up tiles or bricks as it was a bit more of a task than someone with no experience would want to handle.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Solid Veneer The Good: Beautiful product! The brick shades and texture perfectly matched my home exterior. The manufacturing quality is superb. The Bad: Although the product was well packaged, I still had a broken brick in one of the sheets. Also, shipping took almost two weeks. I guess the company does not carry an inventory.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Fantastic look achieved with these faux bricks these look identical to real bricks and once in place you can't tell the difference between them and a true brick laid wall. My only difficulty was getting them to adhere to the concrete block wall I was covering. I ending up peeling the individual brick veneers off of the perforated backing and mortaring them on one at a time. This actually was to my advantage because I could space them just a bit further apart than they were on the backing sheet and thereby allowing me to cover more surface area. Overall well worth the money and time.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great for interior walls! I highly recommend these brick webs, I was able to brick the wall in my basement in a couple of hours. Just make sure you use high-quality thin set mortar to stick them on the wall. I started from the top of the wall down to ensure I had whole bricks at the top row and if I had to, the half cut brick would be on the last row where it would not be noticeable. Just make sure you keep the brick webs from sliding down and out of place before they get to dry in place. Finally I used a grout bag to fill in the grout and then used the U shaped grout tool to spread it and give it a nice u shape between the brick. It's less messy then having to seal the brick and use the sponge method.

I used a tile saw for straight cuts and a diamond cutter on my Dremel for smaller cuts (around outlets). There were a few panels where the brick had broken during shipping. And the brick is more red than what was pictured. But overall, I'm very happy with the product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Great product I ordered the thin bricks from another big box store along with these to compare for our project, and these not only looked more like "real" bricks (which they are, just thinner), but had more variation in color which which gave them a more natural, aged look, that I was going for. The backing makes installation much easier than individual pieces would be, as the pieces are already evenly spaced. Another plus was that these arrived unbroken, whereas the ones from the other store (that were individual pieces) had lots of broken bits. Well-packaged.
