again can you walk on it???

would be nice to see items get answers from either home depot or the mfg.
Asked by: tradeswoman
From page 7 of the install instructions: "Installation of roofing materials can be dangerous. The relative amount of danger is increased by the height from the ground, increasing pitches of the roof slope, inclement weather conditions or other factors. We strongly recommend anyone installing Ondura or working on a roof in any manner take all precautions possible to insure their personal safety. When walking on nailed-down Ondura sheets wear soft-soled shoes and walk on top of purlins only, placing feet across corrugations. Ondura is more pliable in hot weather; less pliable in cold weather. Always use care in walking on Ondura or any other roof." I can tell you that you have to be right on the purlins. Too far off and the roof will buckle and fail. Ask me how I know. It seems to be more tolerant if it's on full decking.

Siding

Can I use this material as siding?
Asked by: Rog
Yes, but you need to make sure the material is not sitting on the ground. Use treated lumber at the bottom of your project to keep the panel up off the ground. I used this on my shed, and it came out great!

If I need to cut it cross-wise, can I use a handsaw instead of a circular saw?

Asked by: none
A circular saw will definitely work better but a hand saw would probably work. It will likely be a lot more jagged on the edges where cut with a hand saw.

It's very easy to overdrive the nails and you almost can't walk on it. I used some scrap pieces and doubled them up which made it better. Cutting was easy, but I question the long term durability. I kind of wish I spent a little more and got metal, but we'll see what happens. I would plan on 18" purlins, not 24". It makes it easier to work on it as you must be over a purlin to stand on it. Be careful nailing because it's easy to overdrive them and dent/crack the panel. Use chalk lines to get things lined up before you start nailing. All in all they went up easy enough and look good. They also keep the area dry so there's that...

Was a "little disappointed" when I first ordered, and they came in damaged, but the second set came in VERY well packaged, and no damage. We installed yesterday, and the weather was VERY cooperative. They were quite easy to handle, and easy to install. I am hoping they will hold up well over the winter, and I guess we will see. Very surprised as to how pliable and sturdy they are. ALSO, VERY impressed that they are made in Virginia!!!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible don't buy They tare with any wind. Ondura will not replace them despite warranty. I have contacted them 5 times, they shine you on and won't send claim form. Home Depot offers no support to deal with Ondura. Quality of product is poor. Tares easily, warps in sun. Wouldn't buy.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Roof panel I bought this roof panel for my chicken coop. It was easy to install, but be careful hammering the Nails into the panel because you can EASILY SEND THE NAIL THROUGH THE PANEL.. But over all it's only been three weeks so I can't honestly say this product is great....

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Satisfactory I installed this on a horse barn several years ago and nailed it to the purlins. I liked the fact that it would be less noisy during rain and hail for the horses. It lasted aprox. 10 years and then one winter it started leaking badly. I had failed to realize that the paint would gradually degrade and it would need to be repainted. The material softened and is nothing like it was originally even after repainting. The nail holes stretched as I worked on it and I still have a problem with leaks. I would recommend it be used over plywood or a firm surface.
