Product Overview

Looking like a grass but really part of the Lily family, this clumping, evergreen perennial has tufts of grass like, green leaves from which small spikes of purplish blue flowers shoot up in late summer, resembling miniature grape hyacinths. Black berries follow the flowers. Extremely hardy plant for use as an edging, as a groundcover, as an accent, or in a container.

  • Exceptionally hardy, dependable perennial
  • Deer resistant
  • Heat, drought, and salt tolerant
  • Plant 6 to 9 in. apart if using as a ground cover
  • 1 Gal. pot - state or federal regulations may require this plant to ship as a bare root plant, without pot and without soil
  • Plant ships as a bare root plant, without pot and without soil, to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington
  • May ship in a dormant state, with no top growth at all
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 9, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be required
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 18 in. away from other plants or structures
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the shake and ship system has been used to remove soil from roots

Answer:
Hello, the 'Big Blue reaches on average 18" tall by 18" wide. While the plant is evergreen in most areas, the foliage may discolor in winter. If this happens, just cut it almost to the ground or mow it down and a new flush of growth will quickly reappear.

Answer:
Hello, thank you for your question. Because this plant grows like a grass, there is one nice sized clump of foliage, approximately 4-6" in diameter, in each pot.

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.5 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality plants These plants were sent in pots with newspaper to keep the soil moist. They were healthy plants and have withstood very dry conditions. I put them in the ground with the soil they were mailed in and have watered them nearly daily, but I went away for 5 days and found them thriving on their own when I returned home! August 9, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Arrived healthy and as advertised A little pricey compared to other places I looked, but the free delivery was key for me and ultimately made it worth it. The plants arrived healthy and as pictured on the website. No complaints. Two weeks later they are still doing well--let's hope it continues! September 5, 2013
