My newly planted phlox is not doing well, what's wrong?

I put in Emerald Blue Moss phlox three weeks ago with some violets that are doing fine. We've had plenty of rain this spring but the soil is well drained and the area hasn't flooded. The phlox is going brown & shriveling up in spots.

Answer:
Hello, thank you for your question. When the Phlox get that ragged look you describe, we suggest trimming back and giving a shot of fertilizer, such as Miracle Gro or a similar product. The plants should be trimmed back each year after flowering.

>>Does this mean a gallon of seed or some other measure?

A product review writes "The plants arrived in full bloom, green and very healthy looking. They are doing well thus far. I was pleased with their quality."

We are looking at this as a potential ground cover so need to understand how much we need to order.

Answer:
Hello. There is one plant in each pot. The plant is approximately 6"round and fill the pot with foliage. When used as a ground cover, place the plants 1 ft. apart from each other.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Phlox plant I purchased 2 of these. Planted them and they died shortly thereafter. Needless to say, I won't make the same mistake twice. If I can't find it in my local nursery, I'll go without. June 23, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Survived another winter! Looks Great! This is my third year with this phlox and it has done very well in surviving very bad winters here in MA. It has spread well, and I would highly recommend it! May 26, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Phlox from Home Depot LIVES ON another year 2014 to 2015 Got phlox last year 2014 and put it in almost full sun.. just a bit of shade, and they came back hardy, and stayed almost fully green thru winter. But unfortunately, the Lithodora, which has blue leaves, ground cover, looks similar.. completely died.. so be careful where you plant.. April 15, 2015
