Product Overview

The rich purple-red, maple shaped leaves of this Coral Bell will provide a striking color contrast anywhere it is planted. The low mounding clumps of foliage are evergreen in milder climates. Slender, dark red stems tower above the dark leaves in early summer, holding open, airy spikes of small, bell-shaped, creamy white flowers. Perennial Plant of the Year in 1991, this is an oldie but goodie.

  • Excellent choice for containers, perennial border, alpine or rock gardens
  • Considered rabbit and deer resistant
  • Leaves range from bronze-green to rich purple-red, a nice break from the traditional green landscape
  • Fantastic color effect when planted en masse
  • 1 Gal. pot - state or federal regulations may require this plant to ship as a bare root plant, without pot and without soil
  • May ship in a dormant state, with no top growth at all
  • Plant ships bare root, with no pot and no soil, to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 8, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be required
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 18 in. away from other plants or structures
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the shake and ship system has been used to remove soil from roots

Answer:
Thank you for your inquiry. The Palace Purple Coral Bells requires consistently moist soil. Water logged soil will suffocate the plant. Too dry of a soil will cause the leaves to burn and die. To check soil moisture, dig down 4-6 in., pick up some soil, press it into a ball in your hand. If it sticks and stays together, the soil moisture is adequate. If it crumbles and turns to dust, it is too dry. If Read More

Customer Reviews

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 3 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Exactly as pictured I was very pleased that the color was exactly as it was pictured on the website. It provides a very complementary color to the other hydrangea and grass plants near it. October 11, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by very convenient The plants were smaller than I expected, but very healthy. September 16, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Plant died soon upon arrival. The plant died after being transplanted because it seems root bound. The packing did not indicate up or down and the plant were upside down when I picked up the package. July 4, 2012
