Hello, Diane, while the deer browse preferences in your particular area may be a little different, the Cotoneaster shrub is typically considered deer resistant as it is not usually eaten by the deer.

1 Qt. Cranberry Cotoneaster Shrub is rated 3.7 out of 5 by 6.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Tough little shrub I ordered 3 of these last year because no one else carries them-not Lowe's or Calloways. They have grown 10 times in size through the desert summer & wild winter of north Texas. I ordered another one this year and it arrived flawless & well packaged-as the previous year. I can't ask for better delivery service or a better shrub. It's colors turn to burgandy in fall & winter, then green again during spring. There are no pest or insect problems with these cotoneasters. I definitely recommend this product.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Plants are very small Plants ordered online and shipped from grower. Arrived promptly in good condition. But be aware that these plants are very small, a fraction of the size of plants available in the store at about the same price

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Worst online plant service I have ever encountered I ordered 32 of these plants for a total cost of about $500. They arrived within a few days of placing my order, but this was the only positive aspect of this purchase. The plants were NOT in quart containers - rather, they were in 4-inch pots. The plants are VERY small for the price - similar sized plants at Home Depot stores sell for around $4.98, $5.98, or somewhere in that range - NOT $14.99. The plants were packed improperly for shipping - seemingly thrown into a box with some packing peanuts and paper. when I opened the box the plants had been tossed around quite a bit during shipping. More than half of the plants were already dead or dying when they arrived at my home. I planted them anyway, hoping they would recover, but within a couple of days they were completely dead. I returned 17 of the 32 plants to my local Home Depot store for a refund. I am also watching the remaining plants for signs of distress - since the online store's return policy is only 90 days, I am watching them carefully. I was able to find replacement plants at a local nursery for the same price, $14.99 - only these plants were in GALLON containers with well-established root structures, unlike the plants sent by Home Depot's online service (which had minimal root balls). I will not purchase plants from Home Depot's online service again - I have purchased plants from many other online nurseries, and the quality/price/packaging are far superior.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Unique beauty I ordered some cotoneasters last year- they have grown 8 times the size in 12 months, are hardy through winter and the colors change from green to burgundy in fall. They are beautiful -no berries yet but tough through the desert summer of north Texas and survived the winters as well. These are evergreen shrubs as well-they didn't lose leaves. I recommend these short shrubs in any garden-you can accent them with light colored stones. I haven't seen any problems with pests either. Love it!
