One of the most popular Japanese maples, this hardy, reliable, small, deciduous tree has a round, upright habit and deep red, cut leaves, which hold until late season. Plant in a moist, well drained soil in a location away from drying winds where it's beautiful foliage can be seen and enjoyed. It is one of the best small trees for narrow side yards or as a central specimen in a woodland setting. Can also be planted in a large container with regular watering, but cannot tolerate reflected heat, such as that from a wall. Plant with ferns, azaleas, pieris, or heuchera for foliage contrast. Slow to medium grower, averaging 12 in. of new growth per year, finally achieving a mature size of 15 ft. tall and wide.

  • Assembled dimension : 6 in. W x 6 in. D x 24 in. H
  • Ideal specimen
  • Attractive foliage with rich dark red color in summer, turning brilliant scarlet in fall
  • Breaks up monotony of a green lawn/garden
  • 3 gal. pot - state or federal regulations may require this plant to ship as a bare root plant, without pot and without soil
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot be shipped to Mississippi or Wisconsin.
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 5 to 8, when grown in other Zones, special care requirements will be required
  • Best and deepest red of all Japanese maple varieties
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 12 ft. away from other plants or structures

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Too early to judge ..... The tree arrived within 3 days of ordering .... but was remarkably small. One of the main branches was broken. I decided to plant anyway. One week later the leaves are opening up and it seems healthy. I might recommend buying the maple directly from the garden center -- you know what you are getting and they are much, much bigger ... at the same price. What you get online is more of a shrub .... a very, very small shrub. April 30, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 Bloodgood Maple I live in zone 9 and this tree was rated for this zone so I was delighted at the prospect of having this beautiful tree in my otherwise Florida landscape. From all appearances the tree arrived healthy and was planted the next day. It was watered daily in well-draining soil, which had been fortified with good topsoil and some organic additives (manure). The location got 6+ hours of sun. It quickly budded and the leaves were a gorgeous deep red. A week later the leaves started to shrive and they continues to do so. The lowest branch is now leafless. We have had a hot spring and I think this tree is just not suitable for zone 9. April 30, 2011
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Bloodgood Japanese Maple This type of tree does not stand up to the wind in some areas. I have had 2 and both got very wind burn and ended up dying on me. August 12, 2010
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Gorgeous Hardy Tree... I Want More!! Picture True I ordered tree on line...first tree I have EVER purchased in my life!!....had no idea what would come "in the mail".... I was extremely and pleasantly surprised when TWO days later it was delivered to my door in a first, I thought "oh this can't be good....a tree in a box???" I opened it and voila! a beautiful tree was waiting inside! YaY!! It was at least four feet tall, maybe a little more, already had deep red leaves, and I chose to plant my new prize in a large beautiful mosiac tile planter pot. I don't plan on ever moving....but if I do, the tree is going with me!! I also like the flexibility it allows me to move it as needed, especially if the weather gets cold or too windy. I LOVE THE HOME DEPOT! I am a walking commercial for them! Our entire house inside and out is beautiful because of The Home Depot and the phenomenal sales associates that work there. I don't know how they find that many happy people to work in one place!! Seriously! It's like a family reunion every time we go into the store....which is A LOT!! Love U Guys!!!!! September 4, 2010
