Product Overview

Lavender angustifolia is one of the richest in essential oils, meaning more fragrance power both fresh and dried. And this 'Hidcote blue cultivar has a more erect, compact habit and darker flowers, so it is perfect for hedges. Fresh flowers can be crystallized and used in candies and cakes; dried flowers are used in potpourri and sachets; oils are used in creams and perfumes. An evergreen perennial, lavender 'Hidcote has a subtle bluish green coloring and a sweet fragrance. Reaching 12 to 24 in. High and 12 in. Customer Questions & Answers

How many plants are actually in the 1 gal?

Asked by: lavenderlover
Thank you for your inquiry. There is one plant in each 1 gal. pot. The Hidcote Lavender plant itself is approximately 5 in. wide by 8 in. tall.

Can I plant in a pot for my apartment? It is very sunny and hot in apartment.

I want the lavender plant for my apartment. So can I plant it in a pot and enjoy the wonderful aroma?
Asked by: Naamah
Thank you for your inquiry. Hidcote Lavender can be grown in a pot for a few years, but eventually it will need to be planted outside in the ground or into a larger pot where its roots can adequately spread and develop. The plant can be tricky to grow as it likes it hot and dry with a not-too-dry, not-too-wet soil moisture.

do i cut back my lavendar plants?

Asked by: becky
Thank you for your inquiry. Yes, every spring the plant should be cut back. Shape into a trimmed mound by removing 2 to 6 in. of growth, without cutting into the thicker woody stems. After each flowering period, remove old blooms by cutting the stem where the foliage begins at the base of the flower stem.

Customer Reviews

1 gal. Hidcote English Lavender Plant is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Plant was ready to go into the ground. Received in good condition and ready to plant, however i was surprised to see that it was not a one gallon container as advertised. It was a small plant in a half gallon container. At first i thought it was just me, but i compared it to my other containers and it was definitely not 1 gallon.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from heavenly when i opened the box, heaven. the smell of lavendar filled the air. the three plants were already in bloom and ready to plant. no waiting until next season to enjoy the fragrance. i cant wait until next year to begin drying the lavendar to use inthe house, or adding to cooking recipes and making tea. wonderful.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the local nursery! I ordered ten of these and they all arrived looking (and smelling) beautiful and healthy. A month later, they're still going strong. Better plants at a better price than I can find locally!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Pleasantly Surprised I am generally hesitant about ordering plants to be shipped. It has been my experience that by the time they arrive, the plants are just shy of dead. Not to mention basically nothing but roots. This time was different. While the plants were clearly young, they were shipped in dirt, securely, and once I opened the box and removed the wrapping, the plants were nice and green. I planted them immediately, although it has only been a couple of weeks, they are thriving. It is too soon to know if they will survive the long term, but they are off to a good start.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from not 1 gallon The plant was not in a 1 gallon pot and was smaller than I expected. It had begun to bloom and smelled heavenly right out of the box so I gave a good rating for that reason. It will make a nice addition to my flower beds.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Bought 3 and All Wilted I bought 3 of these lavenders and they all wilted though I provided full sun and decent drainage. I also bought 3 plants from another nursery of a similar cultivar but smaller size and those are growing so a bit disappointed with the Homedepot plants.
