Product Overview

The color on this deciduous Azalea is like no other. Vivid orange buds open to fragrant, brilliant golden-yellow flowers, where 8 to 10 of the blooms are held together in rounded trusses. This rounded shrub has coppery-bronze new foliage in spring, aging to a desirable green for summer, and then changing to deep bronze before falling off in fall. A versatile plant for many situations, commonly used as a foundation plant, in the woodland garden, or as a border shrub.

  • Very fragrant, golden yellow flower trusses
  • Bold color for reflecting ponds and water gardens
  • Highly sought after, but hard to find, azalea variety
  • 1 of the best bright golden yellow flowering shrubs
  • 2 Gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot ship to Mississippi
  • Plant ships as a bare root plant with no soil and no pot when shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the shake and ship system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 5 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 5 to 8, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be required
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves, especially in early spring when plant has been pruned back to promote lateral branching

Answer:
Exbury Azaleas lose their leaves in the fall after frost. So, they are not green year round.
The blooms are yellow.
Since I live in Ohio, I don't know when Azaleas bloom in Oklahoma.

Answer:
Thank you for your questions. The plant is deciduous and does not hold its leaves year round. The blooms are not a true yellow but rather a orangish golden yellow. The shrub blooms in late spring.

Answer:
Hello, Kelly. The Azalea grows best in Zones 5-8. It has a shallow root system that most likely would succumb to the extreme winter conditions of Zone 4.

Answer:
Hello. The 'Klondyke is a deciduous azalea and requires several weeks of temperatures below 50 deg. during the winter months to set bloom. They usually do not thrive in coastal areas where alkaline soils, salt drift, or saline irrigation water are found. The warm winters and soil conditions of Central and Southern Florida are usually not ideal for growing this shrub.

Answer:
Hello. This particular Klondyke azalea shrub is not part of the Encore line. As it is a slow grower, it will take several years to reach maturity.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 11 reviewers.
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Small plant, HUGE pot My plant arrived looking pretty young (lime green leaves), healthy and about 6-7 inches tall. The problem is that I ordered a 3-gallon potted plant for $79, expecting it to be an appropriate size in a 3 gallon pot. I was willing to pay for the maturity and height that is expected from a plant in a container that size. What I received was a tiny, baby plant in a huge 3-gallon container. It has been in the grown now for approximately 2 months. The growth is slower than that of the Encore Azaleas that I purchased elsewhere which are also showing some blooms. For the size and maturity of the plant I received, I could see paying $20-30 for, NOT $79! I hope that when it does bloom, its at least the color that it's supposed to be. July 5, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Will never use your product with out seeing it again. Doesn't Home Depot check on what their suppliers ship? I ordered the 2gl. Size. Recieved a container of dirt with a 6" stem with 5 leaves on it. May 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Orange azalea Couldn't find these anywhere and it is what my mom specifically requested for Mother's Day! Not one local greenhouse had them! June 7, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by A little disappointing.... Plant was much smaller than I expected and probably needs 12-30 months to mature. Also, delivery took too long. June 7, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing quality! I recently received and planted two Klondyke Azaleas from Home Depot Garden Online. Over the years I have ordered many live plants from the internet. However, the condition and quality of the plants were so poor, I started buying from our local nurseries unless it is an item I really want and can not find locally. Four years ago I bought an Yellow Exbury Azalea from a local garden store and it has done very well. For three years I have been looking for another one without any luck. Therefore I searched the internet and found the Klondyke Azalea on the Home Depot website. I was completely surprised when I opened the box. The packing was so good there was absolutely zero damage to the plants and not a speck of soil fell from the container. The top of soil was packed with newspaper and then affixed with two wide pieces of tape. A plastic bag was then tightly wrapped and tied around the container securely holding the soil. A bamboo stake the length of the box had been inserted into each pot which prevented the plants from damage due to handling by UPS. In my experience handling during shipping has caused serious damage to the plants. However, the measures taken on these plants completely worked to prevent any damage. I also was completely surprised by the size and quality of the plants. I was expecting a four to six inch plant. However, both of these plants were 15" tall with buds on multiple stems. When I removed them from the container at planting, the pot was completely full of very healthy looking roots. These plants were in such good condition and quality I could have been fooled into believing they came from a local nursery! Since it is mid-April I will post a review later this summer on how the two plants performed. Happy Gardening 2016! Sigmund Dayton, Ohio April 11, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by yellow azalea 3 gallon plant So far, so good- this review is too early to be useful-- for this plant, at least. November 3, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Plant was sick Got the plant on 6-11-2015 and I planted it on the same day. The plant seem to be sick and not growing. I am in a wait and see mode because I don't know if I could get my money back. I hope it continues to grow because it looks so pretty in the picture. July 28, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by 2 Gal. Yellow Klondyke Azalea Shrub After having several failures when having this plant shipped to us, we were very please with the shipping practices and quality of plants we received. We have planted these and they have really taken off and have grown to nearly twice the size in a few weeks time. May 26, 2015
