We purchased a butterfly bush, which was planted in/of a 1-gallon size. The plant arrived intact and securely in the plastic 'bucket' container, with moist soil, the surface of which was covered in damp newspaper and all was then secured in a plastic bag. The container was well packed with foam peanuts and stayed in position within the box. I was a little unsure of what condition I'd find the plant in because the box did suffer a little damage in transit but it was very well protected and in as good a condition as it would have been had we purchased it from the store's garden center.
The bush was of a good size for a 1-gallon plant and appeared to be healthy. It is thriving and adapting well to our yard.

The plant I ordered was delivered on time. I thought it would be larger since it was in a 2 gallon pot but it was quite small. It is still small but larger than it was so, hopefully, it will continue growing.

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by KimW Not as big as I would have expected, but once planted is doing really great
I was expecting a butterfly bush in a decent size and condition. It was not so great, however, I do have to say that once planted, it has rebounded really well and is now thriving.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aster Beautiful, strong, attracts butterflies, great beginner plant!
I recently moved to North Carolina from a northern state and am new to gardening. I love butterflies so I did my research and bought 3 of these, already flowering, and planted mid summer. They did NOT let me down - at least 5 species of butterflies nonstop all day, AND they have grown back nearly twice as big this year! I didn't trim them in the winter so the shoots are growing outward a bit, which is fine because i gave them ample space. I'm very excited! This plant is a MUST HAVE for any garden because it's so great at attracting insects, looks beautiful, and is hardy. A real eye catcher (and I think the neighbors are jealous of all my butterflies). ;) My suggestion: use gardening soil and plant with sage and other butterfly/hummingbird attracting flowers. You won't be disappointed. I'll try to attach a photo..

With enough water and good soil, this beauty can grow wide and tall - make sure it has enough room to spread, quickly adding maturity to your garden. The blooms can get to be 12 plus inches long, attracting butterflies from all around. Be brave and cut every last branch down for the winter season to encourage even bigger blooms the following summer.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Priscilla Plant arrived dead.
When this plant arrived it came with a disclaimer stating that the plant was in a dormant state, the leaves have fallen off but the plant will rejuvenate itself once planted. We were expecting frosty mornings so I planted the blub in a pot instead of outside in the ground, (this plant does not come in a pot with soil). I ensured that I used Scotts soil with fertilizer and I placed adequate plant food as well. The plant actually had leaves on it but they were dried up and dead looking, I thought it was odd since the disclaimer stated that the plant would have no leaves. My husband insisted that the plant was more dead than dormant but I disagreed and held out hope. This plant never rejuvenated itself and after two weeks of nothing I took it back to Home Depot were it was pronounced dead. Home Depot gladly refunded my money. I will not purchase another plant that comes as bare root without soil and a pot. The root blub was wrapped and had moisture beads within the wrapping but the plant still died and may have been dead when shipped. I must say that I have ordered other plants from Home Depot which arrived in pots with soil and they are growing nicely.

Black Knight Butterfly Bush arrived trimed back way too hard. Didn't last two day when planted.

I wrote the review of recieving a root with broken sticks. I did plant it and it's growing very well. It looks like the photo. It's a very good plant. My only issue is that the blooms are weighing so much that they are falling to the ground. I'm sure this has to with fertilization or some other reason. At the end of the day... I may buy more.
