Black Knight Butterfly Bush arrived trimed back way too hard. Didn't last two day when planted.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Aster Beautiful, strong, attracts butterflies, great beginner plant!
I recently moved to North Carolina from a northern state and am new to gardening. I love butterflies so I did my research and bought 3 of these, already flowering, and planted mid summer. They did NOT let me down - at least 5 species of butterflies nonstop all day, AND they have grown back nearly twice as big this year! I didn't trim them in the winter so the shoots are growing outward a bit, which is fine because i gave them ample space. I'm very excited! This plant is a MUST HAVE for any garden because it's so great at attracting insects, looks beautiful, and is hardy. A real eye catcher (and I think the neighbors are jealous of all my butterflies). ;) My suggestion: use gardening soil and plant with sage and other butterfly/hummingbird attracting flowers. You won't be disappointed. I'll try to attach a photo..

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Priscilla Plant arrived dead.
When this plant arrived it came with a disclaimer stating that the plant was in a dormant state, the leaves have fallen off but the plant will rejuvenate itself once planted. We were expecting frosty mornings so I planted the blub in a pot instead of outside in the ground, (this plant does not come in a pot with soil). I ensured that I used Scotts soil with fertilizer and I placed adequate plant food as well. The plant actually had leaves on it but they were dried up and dead looking, I thought it was odd since the disclaimer stated that the plant would have no leaves. My husband insisted that the plant was more dead than dormant but I disagreed and held out hope. This plant never rejuvenated itself and after two weeks of nothing I took it back to Home Depot were it was pronounced dead. Home Depot gladly refunded my money. I will not purchase another plant that comes as bare root without soil and a pot. The root blub was wrapped and had moisture beads within the wrapping but the plant still died and may have been dead when shipped. I must say that I have ordered other plants from Home Depot which arrived in pots with soil and they are growing nicely.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by LBDC Butterfly Bush - Love this fast grower!
With enough water and good soil, this beauty can grow wide and tall - make sure it has enough room to spread, quickly adding maturity to your garden. The blooms can get to be 12 plus inches long, attracting butterflies from all around. Be brave and cut every last branch down for the winter season to encourage even bigger blooms the following summer.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Trish1004 Best online plant purchase experience
The two plants arrived within 4 days which means they were already established. The foliage, while having been trimmed back for transportation purposes was still green and upon receiving a drink of water perked up within minutes 3 weeks later, they are still in their original pots as I am doing some construction and the garden bed is not ready yet. They have tripled in size and are very healthy. Mind you growth rates in Houston are similar to living in a greenhouse. Home Depot is the first place I will go to now for any online plant purchases.

I wrote the review of recieving a root with broken sticks. I did plant it and it's growing very well. It looks like the photo. It's a very good plant. My only issue is that the blooms are weighing so much that they are falling to the ground. I'm sure this has to with fertilization or some other reason. At the end of the day... I may buy more.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Zoby This plant looked really sad from travel, but you should see it now!
I received this plant with three other plants in the same box and they were really cramped. They all suffered from travel shock, but this little guy really got car-sick. It arrived with a 3 gal lilac, and two other 2 gal butterfly bushes--a pink and a purple. As the instructions specified, I removed the plastic bag from all the pots and watered them thoroughly. I let them "breathe" in a quiet location that received a half-day of morning sun and evening shade. I watered them daily and left them "resting" for about a week in that location. Once they looked ready to plant, I did what my local nursery owner recommended. I dug the holes 2 - 3 times larger than the pots, and filled them clear to the top with water and let drain. If it drained too quickly--indicating a really dry location, I filled them up again. This is crucial since dry soil surrounding your new plant will pull the moisture from your new plants and...well...kill them. You can't surface water enough to make up for that since surface watering usually won't go deep enough. If you have a good deep watering tool, that's the best. But I would still fill the hole with water first. I then mixed some of the original dirt with good topsoil and planted each one. Put a rim of dirt around each one to form a well and watered thoroughly. Again, you ought to see this once sickly little plant now. In fact, they ALL look so good, as if they've been there all along. I have ordered many shrubs from Home Depot and have had great results with all. I'm thrilled!

The plants arrived quickly, packaged/protected well. They were not very big.. It was a bare root (I prefer the pot) The root was large and very little green on the "trunk". Nothing this year for bloom. I'm hopeful it will come around and be a beautiful sight next year. Not sure if I recommend it yet.. no blooms, but I have ordered others from Home Depot on line and they look great.. so I'm sure this will too.
