Azalea 'Gibraltar' is an exceptional hybrid boasting huge trusses of eye catching, 2-1/2 in. flowers with broad, charmingly fringed, coppery orange-red petals. A mid-season grower and heavy bidder, it is unusually hardy, richly fragrant, and easy to grow. All of our outstanding deciduous Azaleas are large flowered, attention-grabbing plants that add a new dimension to Azalea colors. Easily grown and quite rugged these beauties are highly mildew-resistant. 'Gibraltar' reaches 6 ft. high and 4 ft. wide.

  • Deciduous azalea has fragrant orange-red flowers from mid- through late spring
  • Incredibly striking color for mid-season
  • Gibraltar is hardier than other deciduous azaleas and very mildew-resistant
  • Bold, orange blooms
  • 2 gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot ship to Mississippi
  • This plant ships as a bare root plant with no soil and no pot when shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the Shake&Ship system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish It'self in the new environment
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 7, when grown in other Zones, special care requirements will be required
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 4 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves, especially in early spring when plant has been pruned back to promote lateral branching

Customer Questions & Answers

When is the best time to plant these

Asked by: don
Hello, autumn is a terrific time to plant, as the Azalea will have time to get acclimated to its new environment before winter. Then, in Spring, it will push its energy into a new growth spurt.

Will this grow in Cedar Park, Tx.? Rocky and clay soil...

Asked by: Teache
Hello, thank you for your question. Cedar Park, TX is in USDA plant hardiness zone 8 or 9. This particular Azalea grows best in Zones 4-7, as it needs cooler weather to set bud and bloom.

But I planted it anyway because it's too much hassle to return. Now the nearby hydrangeas are infested with mildew too, all 4 of them. I hope I'll be able to contain the infestation. Plants for sale especially online should be healthy because I'm only relying on the picture. I'm not going to order plants from online from your store anymore.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Beautiful unique shrub This azalea is different than most species, with longer upright branches and beautiful balls of vibrant orange clustered flowers. They are conversation pieces to all. I was alot let down with the size of each plant upon arrival, compared with the cost. They have grown very hardy thus far however.
