Product Overview

Attractive, shorter, flowering tree growing only 20 ft. tall with a dense rounded crown that provides shade to a small area. Creamy white, fragrant, flower clusters appear in early summer, later than other Lilac, and attract butterflies and hummingbirds. Very tolerant tree that endures poor sandy and clay soils, acidic and slightly alkaline soils and urban environments. Deserving to be in any landscape, popularly used as a garden specimen or a shrub border accent plant.

  • Dark green leaves atop attractive reddish brown bark
  • Low maintenance with excellent resistance to powdery mildew
  • Small size for street or specimen tree near buildings
  • Tolerates deer browsing and clay soils
  • 2 gal. pot, ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • Ships as a bare root plant without pot and without soil when shipping to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the Shake&Ship system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 3 to 7, when grown in other zones, special care will be necessary
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 7 ft. away from other plants or structures

Hi andrew,

The 1.5'' class tree is at least 1.5'' up to but not including 2'' wide measured with a caliper or other precise measuring device.
A container grown tree is probably less than 1.5'' caliper, unless the container is 10 gallons or more. The tree's variety will affect the trunk size, so there are exceptions.
Thank you for asking,

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Just plant it. Too early to tell Too early to tell the quality of tree. They seem Ok for the price. However, the trees came shortly after order. The ground is still frozen in early March. Most nursery will not ship until weather allows to plant, but not Home Depot. Buyer be aware the shipping date before order. March 25, 2014
