Product Overview

  • Dense, Lacy, Blue Green Foliage is Soft to the Touch
  • Thrives in Moisture-Rich Soils in Full Sun to Part Shade
  • A Dwarf Arborvitae that Rarely Needs Pruning
Naturally globe shaped, this spherical bush has dense, soft, sage green foliage that has a fine, almost lacy texture. The look varies dramatically from other Arborvitae, as it more resembles a fine needled Juniper or a mossy Cypress. The tight and compact habit keeps it's shape without pruning. Excellent for the rock garden, in formal gardens, as a foundation plant, and even in a patio container.
  • Hardy, durable, and adaptable to many conditions and soils
  • Outstanding landscape or container plant
  • Very slow growing, keeps shape without trimming
  • Tiny, lacy foliage is soft to touch and forms a perfect ball
  • 2 gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • We're sorry, but due to state regulations, this plant cannot be shipped to Connecticut
  • This plant ships as a bare root plant with no soil and no pot when shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the Shake&Shipsystem will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 2 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 8, when grown in other Zones, special care requirements will be required
  • May ship in a dormant state where winter color is not as bold as summer hues

Customer Reviews

2 gal. Mr. Bowling Ball Arborvitae Shrub is rated 3.8 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Highly Recommended With absolutely no experience, my wife and I recently designed and completed our front landscape makeover which included several mail order items. BY FAR... the Home Depot Bowling Balls were of the best quality. They came very well packaged, healthy and a very nice size. We initially ordered 6 but liked them so much we decided to order 2 more. Since taking the pics we've added dark mulch. We've received so many compliments. Not bad for 2 novices. Trust me... you will not be disappointed. If we ever need to do mail order plants again, I will always check Home Depot first..

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ideal for city dwellers in a pot on the stoop, deck or patio. When I saw this shrub, I knew that is was the one! I had looked for a year for a round shrub next to the patio door. This shrub fit all my needs: perfect shape that does not require trimming, soft foliage, great eye appeal and no mess. And it's an arborvitae!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from PERFECT SHRUB! I have planted these before at a home prior to the one I'm beginning my new landscape projects on, and these Mr. Bowling Ball shrubs are perfect anywhere. I've used them for driveway accents as well as a long the sidewalk paths, and they continue to look healthly and deep green. I was also very happy with the shipment/delivery, because they were still moist in the the paper and plastic the root ball(s) were shipped in, (but you still want to soak them for a while before planting).

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 100% Survival after 3 weeks I rated these shrubs four stars only because they were smaller than expected upon delivery. But they are exactly what I was looking for, and will be perfect once they grow a little. It has been 3 weeks since they arrived and were planted, and all 34 of them are doing well. It looks as though 100% will survive.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Excellent shrubs We have ordered from Home Depot garden center several times and have never been disappointed. We ordered these shrubs because of their low maintenance and we needed a shrub that would not grow too high. The six shrubs arrived in perfect condition, beautiful green, and they look great in our front border area. Very pleased with the quality once again and we will continue to order through Home Depot garden area.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Ball Arborvitae I bought four shrubs for a total of $112.00. I thought that the price for four was pretty fare until the shrubs arrived. The shrubs were balls alright... About the size of a baseball! I immediately returned them to the store. As I walked out with my return receipt, I noticed that my local Home Depot had Ball Arborvitae shrubs for $8.99 outside! No, they weren't very big, but they were five times bigger than the baseball sized ones that I bought online.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from beautiful plants I ordered three arborvitae. They arrived in perfect condition and were larger than I anticipated, which was wonderful. They were packaged extremely well. I will definitely order plants from Home Depot again. I was not able to find this particular plant anywhere else without paying a lot more.
