Product Overview

An evergreen shrub with small, dark green leaves and a pyramidal habit. Needing no more than a quick trimming each year, this plant can be used as a specimen, as an accent, in the shrub border, and next to the foundation. Every landscape should have this handsome shrub.

  • An attractive shrub for year round interest
  • A very hardy boxwood cultivar with small, lustrous, dark green leaves
  • Plant is in a 2 gal. pot and will be approximately 15 in. tall after planting
  • Retains its dark green color all year long
  • 2 gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • Plant ships as a bare root plant with no soil and no pot when shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the shake and ship system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 9, when grown in other zones, special care requirements will be required
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 3 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • May ship in a dormant state where winter color is not as bold as summer hues

Customer Questions & Answers

What does the Pyramidal Green Mountain Boxwood shrub need in terms of trimming?

Does the shrub maintain the pyramid shape on its own? Is trimming needed? If so, how often and does it require any expertise? Finally, Our cement planters are full of dirt that hasn't been replaced in 15 years (previously there were trees in them). How much of this needs to be replaced with premium potting soil? Thank you!
Asked by: tqua
Hello tqua and thank you for your question. Yes, the plant will need a quick trimming each year to maintain the lovely pyramidal shape. Use a good pair of sharp trimmers to give the plant a touch up annually. You should plan to replace the soil in the cement planters so the new shrub will have a long and healthy life. Use a soil designed for trees and shrubs that is fortified with essential nutrients to promote foliage and root growth. Best wishes on your project.

I would like order 3 Pyramidal green Shrubs, You have 2 Ga. pyramidal, Do you have larger size available now. We are in California, Are you will be

We are in California, It's okey to ship to us? Please let's know. Thank you very much. Your customer, Alice
Asked by: SanFrancisco
Thank you for your inquiry. At this time, only the 2-gallon size is available. The plants are 18-24 in. tall and can ship to California as a bare root plant. This means that the pot and all soil is removed from the roots before shipping. The roots are dipped in a moisture retentive, nutritious gel that will feed the plant en route and continuing after it is planted in the soil.

Customer Reviews

2 gal. Pyramidal Green Mountain Boxwood Shrub is rated 3.0 out of 5 by 10.
Rated 2 out of 5 by from Tiny shrub! My boxwoods arrived healthy and, since planting them about 3 weeks ago, are already showing new growth. What is deceiving is the picture shown online is much larger than the product you will receive. Imagine this shrub slightly larger than your hand (I'm not exaggerating), and that's what will arrive. Had I known it would be so small, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. It's made for interesting discussion though and everyone has a giggle when they see what I "thought" I was getting and what I actually got.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Poor I didn't expect a full grown shrub, but did expect the same top growth as when purchased at store. Very chopped up, tried to be pyramidial, but not. Extremely disappointed. Made the mistake of giving them a great chance. Not good. Planted watered etc. it's like they're defective. Haven't died but doesn't grow. Wish I could post pics of my good one vs these 2 wimps! Shameful. Shouldn't even be shipped. Poor QC!! Do I recommend? I wish I could change it from yes to absolutely not but settling for no.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Seems to have died I ordered this product online, and put it next to 2 others I bought at a local nursery. 2-3 months later the 2 local specimens are thriving while this one had no new growth and some dead leaves. I'm a little annoyed since it wasn't cheap.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Exactly like the pictures It comes smaller than you expect, but very easy to plant. Been in growing for about a month, gained 1 inch. Slow growing, looks healthy and cone shaped. Stands about 1'3" now.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It's been 9 months and they look great! We purchased 2 of these late last summer. They arrived beautifully packaged and were easy to plant. It was a very cold winter, but these boxwoods still look great and are growing nicely this spring! I'd love to order 2 more, but they are currently out of stock. Yes, they are small, if you want more mature plants you can purchase them for 3-4 times the price at greenhouses. We are enjoying watching them grow!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great shrubs Great shrubs. I planted them in my walkway garden and they did great for about a week then started drying out really bad. I had to water them like crazy, but the soil is sandy to that may have been why. I live in wyoming so that may be why, it is super dry here.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Not what I expected I’m going to return them. They are so much smaller than I expected – about 1ft of plant in a 2 gallon container. I did read the reviews and someone complained about the size but I really expected something closer to 3ft. They take forever to grow and I want a 5-ft plant at the location so it’s not gonna work. I considered potting them and keeping them on the front porch but they are way too small for that too. But the plants did look healthy. This is not about the quality, just the expectation.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Hard to find shrub The shrub was delivered in a timely manner and was well packaged and in great shape. I feel like the value was not up to typical standards from Home Depot.
