Product Overview

Plant Patent #15,298. This popular Hydrangea cultivar blooms on both old and new wood, repeating reliably from early summer till fall, so late frosts don't faze it. You can expect weeks of glorious color through Zone 4 in the north with Endless Summer. This mop head begins bearing massive 8 to 10 in. flowers when the weather warms in summer and reblooms into fall. The pink or blue blooms (depending on soil pH -acid for blue blooms, alkaline for pink) are splendid cut flowers either fresh or dried. Many Hydrangeas are hardy in the north, but late frosts freeze the buds and they never come into bloom, but with this beauty that fear is gone. By blooming on new growth, Endless Summer gives you color no matter how icy your spring turned out to be. It reaches 5 ft. high and 4 ft. wide, perfect for foundations or a low hedge. Happiest in partial shade, it takes more sun in the northern portion of it's hardiness range, and is very heat- and humidity-tolerant farther south. Keep well watered during the first few seasons.

  • Blooms reliably every year, no matter how late your frosts
  • A mophead hydrangea suitable for northern gardens, blooming on both new and old wood all summer long
  • Giant blooms of pink or blue arise on old or new wood, so they never get nipped by late frosts
  • Huge, showy blooms are terrific for fresh and dried flower arrangements
  • 3 Gal. ships in pot
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 4 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 4 to 8, when grown in other zones, special care will be necessary
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves, especially in early spring when plant has been pruned back to promote lateral branching

Customer Questions & Answers

Is it an inside plant

Asked by: Patricia
I made this error a while back. There are INDOOR and OUTDOOR plants. Typically indoor plants are less resilient to disease and pests. I found out the hard way that indoor plants do not fair well out of doors. So far this OUTDOOR hydrangea is fairing EXCELLENTLY in my back yard.

are these hydrangeas perennials or annuals?

Asked by: benebojo
They are perennials. Their colour can be driven between blue to pink depending on the soil pH. Be certain of the lighting conditions for the plant and otherwise keep it watered and happy and enjoy.

3 Gal. Endless Summer Hydrangea Shrub is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from I received excellent instructions as to the condition of the plant when it arrived. Upon receipt... I received excellent instructions as to the condition of the plant when it arrived. Upon receipt the plant was dormant with MANY labels and indicators advising me of this. I planted the hydrangea in what I felt was an ideal location and after the first warm spell it came out of its dormancy and has already started to bloom.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from perfect addition I bought this on sale at the begining of the summer and it has grown significantly in it's original pot as I didn't know exactly where I wanted to plant it. I finally planted it after all this time and it has taken off! I can't believe the flowers on this. Absolutely beautiful! It started off with 2 large flower heads and has sprouted about 4 more softball sized heads in the pot. It now has 9 softball sized or larger heads on it! I only planted it a week ago. I'm really impresses with the amount of flower heads on such a small plant. It's supposed to top out 3'x3' and will be just stunning in my garden if it grows to spec.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Endless Summer Hydrangea 3 Gsllon Not at all what I expected for a $47 plant. Home Depot is great about refunding. I found much more established plants in the store for $18.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Hydrangea I ordered 3 Hydrangea plants through the website. They were promptly delivered to my home and excellent condition with planting instructions. I planted them right away and they have been thriving. When the soil dries out they droop a bit, but about 10 minutes after watering they are once again perky. They do require moist soil.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Not as advertised, not worth even $5 I ordered this hydrangea for $49 and it came as a bare root plant. Okay, I read the fine print and it did say that it would be delivered as a bare root plant in some states, including mine, but it was far smaller than you would expect for a plant that is advertised as coming in a three gallon container. Many of the leaves were already eaten by some bug or other, and the only bud on the plant was on a branch that was broken during shipment. If I had seen this plant in the store, I would not have paid $5 for it. I will never order another plant from Home Depot online. I am pampering it as much as I am able to try to get it to survive. Don't waste your money. Don't get me wrong, I like Home Depot, and have had many excellent purchases from them online, and have bought some great plants from their store, but this was a ripoff. Don't be fooled into thinking that the picture they show is representative of the product you will receive. (Note, I tried to upload a picture, but the upload failed, even though it was within the required specifications and I tried three times.)

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Die Back in PA Zone 5b winter I was pretty upset this Spring after planting a few of these last year. The were beautiful over the entire summer months and was very pleased. What is upsetting is that now that Spring has arrived every single plants old wood is completely dead. The plants are putting out new growth/stems from the base so they are alive but I'm going to have to cut every stem from last year to the ground. You can see there were buds on the old wood but they completely dried out over the winter. We actually had a very mild winter here in PA last winter. I also insulated the base with mulch and poured leaved over each plant in the Fall so don't know what to do this upcoming Fall. It's a beautiful plant but if it's going to die back completely every year it's a real disappointment.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Product not as described I ordered a 3 gallon plant so it would be large enough and more established than a 1.5 gal plant. The plant arrived in a 3 gallon container, but the roots were shallow and didn't even fill the container half way. It looked as it a small plant was put into a large container. I paid $49 for this. What was more upsetting was that I went to our local Home Depot store, and bought a 1.5 gal (same plant) for $17 and it was much larger and more established than the 3 gallon one. I called and Home Depot gave me a $25 gift card to reimburse me. However, I could have bought 2 of the 1.5 gal plants at $17 each for far less money. I really thought I would be refunded alot more than $25 for this situation.
