3 gal. Tamukeyama Japanese Maple Tree

Frequently Bought Together

Product Overview

A red leafed, Japanese maple tree that grows wider than tall. Weeping and cascading branches can eventually reach 12 ft. wide. Deeply cut, purplish red leaves change to a brighter hue in autumn before dropping for winter dormancy. Use as a specimen plant where its attractive foliage and cascading effect can contrast with other landscape plants or structures.

  • Purple red foliage is showy throughout summer
  • Small reddish purple flowers in spring are best viewed up close
  • Winged samaras, i.e. whirlybirds, ripen in late summer
  • A low maintenance, accent plant
  • 3 gal. ships in pot unless state or federal regulations require otherwise
  • We’re sorry, due to state or federal regulations, this plant cannot be shipped to Connecticut, Louisiana, Tennessee, Texas or Wisconsin
  • Plant ships as a bare root plant with no soil and no pot when shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington
  • When shipped as a bare root plant, the Shake&Ship system will be used to remove soil from the roots, thus increasing the root tip surface area, which in turn, greatly enhances the ability of the plant to rapidly establish itself in the new environment
  • To accommodate mature size or when planting in groups, space 6 ft. away from other plants or structures
  • Performs best in plant growing zones 5 to 8, when grown in other zones, special care will be necessary
  • May ship in a dormant state, with bare branches and no leaves

Customer Questions & Answers

What are the actual colors of the leaves?

The leaves look green in the photo. I was hoping for Red foliage.
Asked by: JohnR
I just purchased one from the store & it is a maroon color leaf with green undertones, as the previous answer stated. Unfortunately they are showing a maple with mostly green leaves. Probably a generic maple picture, but can be misleading. Get one you will love it!! Remember, these are smaller trees-dwarf variation, so when you get one it will be approx. 4 foot tall. This "dissectum" is not expected to get full width of 12' spread.

What are the approximate dimensions of the tree when it is shipped?

I am interested in buying a Japanese Maple, but I want to make sure when I get it, that it fits through the door (there is no direct access from the street to the deck).
Asked by: NYer
My tree, which I purchased at the store is about 4x4, as most were, unless you get a younger one that was about 3x3. Get one you will love it!! Remember, these are smaller trees-dwarf variation. This "dissectum" variation is not expected to get full width of 12' spread.

Customer Reviews

3 gal. Tamukeyama Japanese Maple Tree is rated 3.3 out of 5 by 4.
Rated 1 out of 5 by from Total rip off I have a Japanese Maple garden and the tree I received from Home Depot was tiny. I purchased a few trees (same variety) of this size or larger for less than $50 one from Lowe's that was double this size. While the tree was healthy it was not in a 3 gallon pot as stated maybe a one gallon pot. Not worth the almost $100 price being charged, there are many online sites that will sell you a plant this size for $40 to $50 maybe less. Also the picture is very misleading if you expect the plant you get to look anything like that you will be very disappointed.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Not Worth It Please don't waste your time or money on this tree. I ordered it not expecting the full size tree that was pictured but a tree that I could plant in my front garden bed to someday be a focal point. The tree that arrived was pathetically small and is only worth half as much as the asking price (97.99). I returned the tree and went to a local garden center and purchased the same type of Japanese Maple for $150 and got a much bigger tree (almost as big as the one pictured.) A tree that is about 4 times the size of this one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Arrived in Orlando, Fl. in very good condition I bought this tree for my son who lives in Orlando, Fl. for his new house. I have not seen it yet but he was very pleased with the condition in which it arrived and says it is thriving. He has always loved my Japanese maple and has always wanted one of his own. I felt this was the perfect house warming gift for him and his family and Home Depot had the best price. Thank you!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Sweeeeet!!! My husband and I just bought this beautiful maple onsite @ Home Depot. Couldn't pass price. Understood not mature, & will have a great time watching the growth. Oh! Only paid 1/3 this price. Apparently some people don't know the value/price of Japanese Maples. We purchased a sickly lone Emperor last year, for $9 & beautiful/healthy this year; also @ Home Depot. Beautiful Japanese Maple's.
