sure, just be sure your hand or fingers are clear of the blade when closing down as this tool will certainly cut them off as well.

CUTTER HAS JAMBED

Had this cutter for over a year and worked well on 1 1/2 in pipe. Now it will not open. No material in the cutter. How do I get it to open to complete my project?
Asked by: adlib2
sounds like you rode it hard and put it up wet...an initial squirt of penetrating fluid should do the trick...since your talking about corroded aluminum tightly jammed against a chrome plated blade that is probably starting to delaminate, leave the unit over night then clean with a dash of mineral spirits in the morning...try to dry all penetrating and cleaning oils off before using. This should help recondition the movement...after use always put up clean and dry...for future reference-a drop of plain oil to the movement points wouldn't hurt and always clean and make dry before using.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Better Off w/ a Hacksaw I bought this to cut through a pipe that was in my wall. I need to cut it so I could replace it when putting in a new sink. This cutter looked like it would do just the trick. Either the blade doesn't cut, or you need to sharpen it yourself because all it did was pinch the pipe. After it took its first grab you couldn't get it to release and had to finish the motion. It successfully cut through the pipe, while creating a nice large crack down the PVC. I came back later with one of those oscillating saws and cleaned up the mess that this tool made. Don't even bother.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Not all people understand how to use PVC cutters. If you use this tool like a scissor or garden snipper, then you are destine to struggle. This is a PVC cutter. You open it up as wide as possible and line up the pipe inside its jaw. Now you slowly clamp down making sure the blade is lining up where you want to cut. At this point, newbies will force it all the way thinking it's a scissor. You cannot do that, you need to pull the handle apart again, and the mechanism cranks up for the first chomp, now you close the handle and it makes its first bite, pull the handle apart to re-crank, then close it again, pull apart to re-crank, then close again. It's hard to describe in words, but it's like a cranking system. It cuts all 2 inch pipes like butter. It is awesome, I just finished building a stand for a workbench. I cannot imagine getting through my project without this cutter.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Great idea, but very cheap materials. I used this tool less than a 10 times probably and it broke, because they used very cheap material for the mechanism - it wears-out very fast. I have at leas 2 friends of mine who - they have the same problem with those cutters. I would probably pay double price if they would made it really durable and reliable for professional use, not for 1-2 DIY projects. Thank you.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Works great for flex and rigid pvc pipe I bought this pipe cutter to do some work on my above ground hot tub. I used it to cut both sch. 40 flex pvc pipe (2" and 1 1/2") as well as rigid 2" pvc pipe. The tool got the job done and seems to be well made.
