Customer Questions & Answers

If I stack a model # 53213 extension on top of a #53212 box what's the height of the combined assembly -- i.e. how deep do they nest?

I have a need for an 18" deep valve box combination. In another part of my project I have a couple of valve boxes of a differrent brand which stack bottom to bottom. Howerver for this next part of my project I need to have the wide end of the box fit right next to the bottom end of the previous assembly. This will only work if your Orbit model #53212 box can be put into the hole wide end down, and then have the ability for its narrower top end to mate with the bottom of your Orbit #53213 extension to extend the height of the combination to at least 18 inches. Will this work with the two products mentioned -- ie Orbit models #53212 box with extension #53213? Is there a lip on one or both of these products which keeps the extension -- ie Orbit #53213 -- from nesting too deeply on the bottom box -- ie Orbit #53212?

I am now going to answer my own question because I just got back from Home Depot and believe I have discovered a better combination of boxes in which one box serves as an extension for the one that is under it. When I got to Home Depot, I found that the extension -- Model #53213 -- nested too deeply on box model #53212. Once nested, the combination provided a combined height of only15" rather than the advertised 18" height. There were no ridges on either box to provide a solid resting platform for the extension. -However!!!!! I discovered that the Jumbo box model #53214, which was on the shelf right next to model #53212 can be made to provide an excellent base for the model 53213 extension, which is supposed to mate with model #53212, but doesn't provide adequate height when so nested with #53212. With just a moderate amount of squeezing pressure on the long bottom edges of box model #53213, it will pop into the top recess of box model 53214 into which the cover normally fits and will rest snugly on the inner lip of that recess. This combination DOES provide a good solid 18 inches of height -- almost exactly -- for the combination, and a much more solid foundation for the model 53213 extension. It is somewhat more expensive than the other combination but worth it because it works well. I ended up buying 1 model 53214 as my base and 1 model 53213 as extension to that base. This combination does what I need.

This sprinkler valve box extension fits over existing valve boxes? I am regrading my lawn and need to add a few inches to existing boxes.

No, you have to remove the old box before installing the new one.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from 14 inch valve cover box From the price to the heavy duty construction and quality of this valve cover box was impressive. I have installed numerous boxes similar to this one but this box is far superior in quality and durability. Highly recommended.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 12 Inch Standard Extenion Valve Box I liked the construction of the Valve Box except that the one I picked up at the store was missing the brass fixture to secure the lid in place. I had already made a couple of trips to Home Depot that day so figured that I would report it the next time I went. That never happened. Thus I only gave the product a 4 star rating. The locks should be attached to the lids of each box.
