Inexpensive, but highly effective. The only issue I had with these was getting the hose to slip all the way over the barbed end. Generally a hose that cracks is already dry and stiff, so it doesn't want to flex well and can present some difficulty slipping over the large barbed ends of this mender. What I found to be effective is to spray a little WD-40 on the mender barb and also the inside of the cut hose end, then work it back and forth until you get it all the way on. If you don't get it well over the 3rd barb, the seal won't hold.

As you install the product one is able to position the screw heads on the same side or opposite sides.

The photo for this hose mender (#27948) appears to show both screw heads on the same side of the mender. The stock I found at the store was different - the screw heads for each portion were on opposite sides.
Having access to both screw heads on the the same side is VERY important is you are trying to mend a soaker hose that is partially buried. You cannot easily flip it over to access the screw head on the other side of the mender.
I am disappointed and will look elsewhere for a product that works for my application. All of my soaker hoses are under mulch and I cannot easily lift them every time I need to make a repair.

This is a great alternative to buying a brand new hose if you have a small hole in your current hose. I had a 75 ft garden hose that sprung a bad leak. I picked up this kit for a few bucks and was able to repair my hose within 5 minutes.
