Answer:
Just move the handles back and forth a little bit at installation. Then leaving them in line with the hose connection they are on. Switch to horizontal and they are closed angled out at 45 degrees. Anywhere in between and it will be partially open.

Yes you can, using your thumb and forefinger turn the black lever to position them in line with the outlet faucet, that would be on. Turn the opposite direction and that would be off.

Hi Lorraine. The black handles attached to the Hoe Y with Shut-Off are large enough to grip with a thumb and finger. Simply turn the handle to the on position by twisting the handle. Thanks for the question!

I have cheap metal garden hose valves that don't break when frozen. Will these crack if frozen, like the plastic ones do?

If there is water in them when they freeze, there is a chance they will crack. This is true of nearly all metal valves.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Water faucet splitter Works great for the need of multiple watering needs August 25, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Item wasn't used or needed-one was included in dryer purchase, but not mentioned when ordered The delivery date was postponed 3x. The dryer was purchased online from 7/4 sale, and was told by GE that Home Depot sold too many, there was not the quantity on hand to sell. I was without a dryer for 3 weeks. I also purchased a 2 line water supply adapter, when one came with the dryer. The description online did not say that one would come with it. I now have to drive 35 miles one way to return this adapter, which makes the cost of gasoline almost more than what I paid for the adapter. This is poor service all the way around. I will not purchase a major appliance from Home Depot again. August 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Worked until it didn't I purchased two of these adapters - one for use at the spigot on the back of my house so I can use two hoses, and another at the drip system on my garden to control flow to the different garden zones. The adapter valves seemed good enough in the store. When installed, they did not leak at the threads on any of the connections. However, after only 2 weeks of use, one of them developed a leak around one of the shut off valves. When closed, water would seep out from around the screw inside of the handle on the shut-off. I returned the defective one without replacing it. The other one at the house is still working OK, but we'll see for how long. June 22, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Good Fabrication Good Quality. Seals good when closed. Slightly overpriced. August 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by It works I don't have much to say about this product. It does its job.I really bought it because it was the cheapest in priceat the Store August 2, 2016
Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by Works, hasn't leaked, but fixed coupling is a pain. Works fine, hasn't leaked, but fixed coupling is a pain. The inlet coupling (the part you screw on the faucet) is fixed, meaning you have to turn the whole adapter to screw it on tight. I was able to get it tight enough to not leak. But, it limits the use since the direction both ends point is determined by where they happen to end up when it's tight - meaning they were pointing up and down on my faucet. In order to point left and right (where I needed them), I would have to loosen the adapter and it leaked. June 27, 2016
