I have had mine for over a year. I leave it plugged in at home and on alert mode.
Did not hear anything from it for the first 6 months, and at 3 am one day the Alarm went off to warn of a Tornado off the coast.
We tested other manufactures of a similar radio and the Oregon had the best reception and clarity.
We also use it to listen to the weather at home and it's portable so we take it on the road to check on weather for outdoor activities. Works in the car too.
It's well made and sturdy. Leave it plugged in at home on warning mode. Lasts approximately 50+ hours unplugged in warning mode, so leave it on battery power only when needed.
Really everyone should own one of these.

I bought this last week to replace a Midland desktop weather radio. This Oregon Scientific works as advertised. No problems programming the county S.A.M.E. code and frequency. During last night's thunderstorm, its 100 db alert was sufficiently loud enough and displayed the alert's red-blinking light.. It also picks up the frequency better than the Midland did in different rooms of the house.
I like that it's easy to grab and take with you.
Maybe the only thing that may be improved upon is a larger alert light. That's only because I keep the NOAA alert setting on silent most of the time and just glance at the light as I'm walking by.
Bottom line: good, effective radio for weather alerts.
My location: Olathe, Kansas

I am quite pleased with the quality, reception, and sensitivity of this radio. Unit has a lot of features that I will never use; clock display, two separate timed alarms, etc.
The only bad feature or non-feature is the inability to limit the volume when an alert message is broadcast. It seems that even after adjusting the volume (during an alert message) to a lower level, the next alert that comes in defaults to full volume. I guess this really isn't a bad thing because you don't want to get caught not hearing the warning. In non-alert mode, once you set the volume control, it stays that way.
In summary, this a great weather radio for the money. Highly recommended, quality and reception are outstanding. I did not give it five stars primarily due to the volume control issue.
