Customer Questions & Answers

Is this safe for use on tall fescue lawns?

Asked by: RichardC
The product devastated my fescue lawn in areas where it was applied and I'm still waiting to see if my fescues will rebound. I will only use this product on my fescues again if I'm desperate and then I will use it in great moderation.

Best results are for weeds under 3 inches. What if nutgrass is taller than 3 inches?

Best results are for weeds under 3 inches. What if nutgrass is taller than 3 inches?
Asked by: DON68
If the nutgrass is taller than 3 inches we would recommend mowing the area 2 days prior to the application of Ortho Nutsedge Killer for Lawns.

Is this product safe to use on zoysia lawn

We don't want to kill zoysia, only nutsedge
Asked by: blue
Ortho Nutsedge Killer can safely be applied to a zoysia lawn. For best results apply when temperatures are between 60-85 degrees. If you have any additional questions, please call 877-220-3089.

How long after application should I wait to mow my grass?

Asked by: Jbone
Do not mow for 2 day before the application of Ortho Nutsedge Killer for Lawns Ready to Use. This allows for good leaf surface for the product to be applied. Do not mow for 2 to 5 days after the application. If you mow too early after the application the product will not have a chance to work its way from the leaves to the rest of the plant.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from THIS PRODUCT TOTALLY SUCKS!!! DO NOT USE THIS GRASS KILLING, WEED IGNORING PRODUCT. IT DESTROYED MY LAWN AND ALL ORTHO WOULD DO IS REFUND MY PURCHASE PRICE. NOTHING LIKE BEING THE GUINEA PIG FOR A GIANT CHEMICAL COMPANY. I WILL NEVER USE AN ORTHO PRODUCT EVER AGAIN.

This is an incredibly potent product and I would recommend its use only sparingly. It certainly kills nut sedge but it has wreaked havoc with the underlying fescues where I have used it, browning out sizeable patches of lawn. I will only use this product again if I am desperate to control nut sedge and even then I will apply it in very modest doses. As of now, I'm watering my browned out fescues daily with the hope that they will make a favorable come back with lackluster results to date. I can't recommend this product for casual use and would only recommend it for extreme nut sedge infestations (but again, if used, do so in moderation.)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This Stuff Works Like the title says...this stuff works. I have a Midwest bluegrass/fescue mix lawn. This kills the nutsedge/nutgrass and doesn't harm the lawn. I have tried the other brands (which require mixing and don't give consistent results), and those packets that dissolve in water (which are expensive). This Ortho brand is ready mixed, just spray it on. You should see the plant start to yellow and die within a few days. For the more established nutgrass (wider blade), you may have to hit it again. If you have a lot of nutgrass, this bottle won't last long, so you may want to buy more than one. Wish Ortho would produce this in gallon bottles!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Don't over do it The product works great, but don't douse the area. I had a couple of spots that looked like it the product did not do it's job. This was after 2 days. I hit it again and it got the nutsedge, but it also got the blue grass. It looks like I applied vegetation killer....everything died. I've learned to go lightly and wait at least a week before applying again. Used in this manner it works great.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This KILLED my nutsedge In July, Day 1... At 6pm I sprayed the patches of nutsedge all over my front and backyard during 80 degree weather. 24 hours later, the previously green nutsedge was turning yellow/brown. On Day 3, it rained for 30 minutes, hopefully pushing the poison down into the dirt to kill the bulbs of the nutsedge, and there was more wilting and dying. On Day 5 before mowing the lawn, they were wilting and brown even more. AND this was all during days of 90 degree summer heat.... my grass was hardly damaged; there were two small patches probably where I sprayed a bit too much. On Day 7, after mowing you can barely see the nutsedge that is left. Now to be honest, I had the same results last year, but some still grew back. I guess it'll take a few years to get rid of it all. Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ortho Nutsedge Killer works great I have had a huge Nutsedge problem in my yard for years - my lawn always looks great in the spring but as soon as the St. Louis heat starts up so did the Nutsedge. Over the years I have tried everything and nothing seemed to work until I found Ortho Nutsedge Killer. This product worked perfectly on my lawn and did not kill the regular grass - (I have a mixture of Tall Fescue / Bluegrass / Zoysia). I have a very large yard and it took a few bottles to get the Nutsedge under control and then a few spot applications as some new areas started to spring up but my yard has never been this free of Nutsedge in over 20 years that I have lived here. I always spray the Nutsedge a few days after I mow, because it is easy to see as it grows so much faster than the regular grass. I then can see it turn brown and die and by the next time I mow it doesn't come back. Hopefully I won't have any new Nutsedge next year but if I do, I know how to get rid of it now. Thank You Ortho for making a product that really works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It really really works! So for 3 years I had the lawn that looked like it grew in spots overnight after a cutting. My mailman said I had nutgrass. So I research it and its not grass but a weed.....this season I was sick looking at the high grass. I did online research and found Ortho Nutsedge. I tried it in 3 areas and waited .....BOOM!!! the stuff turned brown by the 3rd day and after 3 weeks it never grew back. I purchased a few more bottles to finish the property. I had to treat 5/8 of an acre and the spray with hose system was great!! Easy to use and it did not kill my real grass. It killed off some other weeds too -BONUS!!! Yes by this and stop lookin at your tall green Nut Grass.
