I bought this product after my co-worker recommended it because I had a garage full of black widow spiders. I sprayed this stuff on the black widows and they withered up and died within 5 seconds no kidding. I have little children so it was of the utmost importance to get rid of these things. I also sprayed the inside of the house because we lived near a dumpster where flies would come in the house every time we opened the door. This stuff killed the flies, spiders, centipedes, whatever came in the house. I sprayed outside the door and inside the baseboards of the house. I never smell a thing because it's odorless.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Wes READ: There is a cheaper, better alternative available.
This product just seems silly. The chemicals it uses are no doubt effective, but the spraying mechanism is a complete joke. If you want high quality protection, you need a 2 foot out/ 2 foot up spray around the house foundation, as well as a spray by any windows and doors. (I think domyownpestcontrol has a video that explains all of this) Applying that much product with what is basically a crummy windex sprayer is simply impractical.
There are bifenthrin concentrates available that are FAR cheaper (Talstar P, Bifen I/T, etc.) You can buy a 16 or 32 ounce bottle of the stuff for around $20, and 1 ounce makes 1 gallon. You only need a pump sprayer to apply it, a good one runs maybe $15. Your total initial investment will be about $40, but you will have FAR more product available (16 gallons versus 1.33 gallons) to use and a MUCH better way of using it. (Wand sprayer vs windex type thing.)
Mixed at a ratio of 1 ounce per gallon yields 0.06% bifenthrin. Home Defense Max is 0.05% with some cypermethrin mixed in for quicker initial knockdown (This just makes it so if you spray it directly on an insect, it kills it rather than having to wait for the bifenthrin to do the job.)
So forget this junk and get the real deal. You can even use other chemicals with the sprayer like weed killer, fungicide, deck wash, house wash, bleach + TSP cleaner, etc.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by ProDIYperson It works.
The non electric trigger breaks quickly, but the assembly is universal to other sprayers so I used a weed sprayer electric wand from another product and it works just fine. But really- the best way is to simply use a good distribution sprayer of your own so you can cover more area around the outside perimeter and a regular old spray bottle works fine to fill and spot spray inside or kill on contact. It's whats inside the product that counts and it works. The cost is fair and sometimes it goes on sale at a very considerate price compared to other brands that do the same. I like the fact that it don't stink or make you sick or pet's when responsibly used. With the warmer weather climate situation worldwide and the greater infestation of Arachnida and other, it is an inexpensive way for the DIY people to maintain pest control. I strongly recommend this product.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by GTMc Prevented THOUSANDS from entering my home
I have millions of fire ants living in my yard. They were all over my trees, patio furniture, bbq and house. I threw this line down 6 inches up from the base of my patio furniture (mid leg) and then had no more ants or beatles crawling up my furniture. I did the same on the wheels of my bbq to the same effect.
In order to keep them out of my house I did all my exterior door jams, edged my windows and threw a line around my entire foundation. I now have 0 ants/beatles and even less spiders inside my residence.
I then edged the border of my pathway and driveway and no longer have any ants attaching me as I walk from home to vehicle.
Highly reccommend its ude

Rated 2.0 out of 5.0 by sitka the sprayer is junk !
i have used the home defense since it first showed up in the local markets.
the manual sprayer worked fairly well and the product did everything it promised.
the new battery powered wand that comes on the product is really junk, it barely squirts out the liquid and if you have high windows , doors , or ceiling areas the wand will does not have enough pressure to spray more than a couple feet at most.
For me,, i will not buy it again,, if you can't get the spray where you need it it's worthless. right ???

I am a big-city midwesterner that just moved down to the woods of North Georgia - I got stung in my house by a southern devil scorpion, so my landlord gave me this stuff. The outside perimeter of the house was recently sprayed by a professional, so this is a second line of defense. We also have diatomaceous earth under the decks. If this stuff actually keeps my house scorpion free, I'm buying stock in the company! So far I have seen plenty of dead spiders so I know its working, but the real test is whether I can get back to sleeping at night without fear...

Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by bigfoot Make sure to buy the right one!
I've used Ortho home defense max for a few years now. It works okay as perimeter barrier on garage and exterior doors if you soak the area thoroughly inside and out. It doesn't do much for fast moving bugs like crickets and spiders. You have to reapply every 2 weeks.
It is FAR more effective as spot control to eliminate anthills. Kills within seconds of contact, and does not damage overspray plants.
DON'T buy the battery operated wand, it costs twice as much, the and holster is worthless, and the batteries and/or motor don't last. I tried to replace the batteries (FOUR AAs, and simply opening the compartment is a hassle, and one of them was preinstalled backwards)

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Moomy Great product!
I have used Ortho Home defense for years. I spray it around the perimeter of my house generally twice a year. Winter time it's usually not necessary. I spray in the house as needed when I see bugs but this is very rare. I like the battery operated power sprayer and then I just buy refills as needed. This product works very well at keeping bugs out of my house and it is a lot cheaper than hiring a pest control company that charges an arm an a leg for 30 minutes of work!!!!
Once and a while I have trouble getting the liquid to come out of the sprayer. Frustrating, but if you give the liquid a quick rest it will work again.
