Customer Questions & Answers

Just mowed yard can I spray now?

Asked by: Me1
Because product is absorbed through the weeds foliage we suggest to not mow for 2 day before the application. This allows for good leaf surface for the product to be applied. We want you to be confident in our products, this is why we offer a product guarantee. If this can only be used once per year, how long do you have to wait to aerate/overseed after use?

Asked by: Rob
Ortho Nutsedge Killer for Lawns should be used at least 4 weeks before aerating or overseeding your lawn.

Nutsedge Killer 32 oz. For Lawns Ready-To-Spray is rated 3.9 out of 5 by 21.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great. The hose attachment type is 1.4 % active ingredient and the ready to use is 0.05. Thats 28 time more dilute. So if one uses 1/2 a cup (4 oz) of the hose product and adds 14 cups of water (14 x 8oz +112oz) it almost equals a gallon (128oz) of the ready to use concentration. I'm trying this at the moment in my pump sprayer.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from This KILLED my nutsedge In July, Day 1... At 6pm I sprayed the patches of nutsedge all over my front and backyard during 80 degree weather. 24 hours later, the previously green nutsedge was turning yellow/brown. On Day 3, it rained for 30 minutes, hopefully pushing the poison down into the dirt to kill the bulbs of the nutsedge, and there was more wilting and dying. On Day 5 before mowing the lawn, they were wilting and brown even more. AND this was all during days of 90 degree summer heat.... my grass was hardly damaged; there were two small patches probably where I sprayed a bit too much. On Day 7, after mowing you can barely see the nutsedge that is left. Now to be honest, I had the same results last year, but some still grew back. I guess it'll take a few years to get rid of it all. Good luck!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Ortho Nutsedge Killer works great I have had a huge Nutsedge problem in my yard for years - my lawn always looks great in the spring but as soon as the St. Louis heat starts up so did the Nutsedge. Over the years I have tried everything and nothing seemed to work until I found Ortho Nutsedge Killer. This product worked perfectly on my lawn and did not kill the regular grass - (I have a mixture of Tall Fescue / Bluegrass / Zoysia). I have a very large yard and it took a few bottles to get the Nutsedge under control and then a few spot applications as some new areas started to spring up but my yard has never been this free of Nutsedge in over 20 years that I have lived here. I always spray the Nutsedge a few days after I mow, because it is easy to see as it grows so much faster than the regular grass. I then can see it turn brown and die and by the next time I mow it doesn't come back. Hopefully I won't have any new Nutsedge next year but if I do, I know how to get rid of it now. Thank You Ortho for making a product that really works.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It really really works! So for 3 years I had the lawn that looked like it grew in spots overnight after a cutting. My mailman said I had nutgrass. So I research it and its not grass but a weed.....this season I was sick looking at the high grass. I did online research and found Ortho Nutsedge. I tried it in 3 areas and waited .....BOOM!!! the stuff turned brown by the 3rd day and after 3 weeks it never grew back. I purchased a few more bottles to finish the property. I had to treat 5/8 of an acre and the spray with hose system was great!! Easy to use and it did not kill my real grass. It killed off some other weeds too -BONUS!!! Yes by this and stop lookin at your tall green Nut Grass.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great! The nutsedge in my lawn turned brown on day two after the application with no visible effects on my tall fescue. The hose end sprayer makes it very easy to apply. I treated a 1000 sq ft area, so I only used 6 ounces of this product. This product is 28 times more concentrated than the the ready-to-spray product (1.40% vs. 0.05%). Savings hint: mix one ounce of this product with 28 ounces of water to make a ready-to-spray solution of 0.05%.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Worked Great! I used this product on my Bermuda grass front yard to knock down/out a Nut Grass problem after our severe drought broke with extended rain. This browned the Nut grass by the second day; far better than the product I purchased at a nursery and applied to my back yard. Nut grass can be tough, patience and a second application will usually take care of it for good.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Extremely Effective I had huge issues with nutsedge growing like crazy on my fescue. I tried pulling them up one by one every day and they kept coming and coming. I did not even know there was a product to treat it until somebody recommended this one to me. I was hesitant since other Otho products had not worked. This thing works like magic. In a couple of days the nutsedge turned yellow and then died. My fescue grass was intact! I just wish it was a little bit cheaper.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Killed Oxalis & Violets This product is easy to use. Was able to spray weedy areas for about 5000 to 6000 square feet with one 32 oz container connected to garden hose. Have had trouble killing Yellow Woodsorrel (also called Oxalis) in the past, and with this product in 2 days it was brown and dying. Temperatures were around 75 F when applied, and my lawn was well watered from rains the week before use. The lawn looks great - no yellowing or other damage. I anticipate doing one more application later this fall to deal with a few areas missed. The Nutsedge is yellowing, but as of this review it is too early to tell if it will be completely dead.
