This piece will push the water further away from the shed, thereby not allowing the water to drip on the bottom floor lip just under the doors. That water will in turn be absorbed back into the floor boards, which could cause rot. The front shingles do not hang very far forward, so something to move the water out from the shed is good. Also, a clear stain looks good and will help prevent water absorption. Read Less

Answer:
OLT suggests using silicone caulk on the seams for a water tight shed. We did not do that but it has not leaked so far.

Answer:
Doesn't have to be super flat - as long as it's firm and somewhat flat. Mine is on concrete stones that are cracked and uneven. I just use shims to make it sturdy and level.

The manufacturer suggests a concrete or paver base. We did ours on a paver base, using pavers that were roughly 8x16" or so.

Can it be shortened by a few inches so it stays under my fence line?

My fence is 67 inches, so it would be good if I could not put in maybe the first row or two of wood slats at the bottom and then cut any veritical pieces to size. Would this work?

Answer:
No, we use it for gardening tools, potting supplies, smaller hand tools etc. I have a larger shed for the riding mower and old push mower. A push mower would fit easily inside the small shed.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 64 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good design, as described, can be assembled by one person Quality is good and as described and as expected. A lot of parts, but can be assembled by one person who is somewhat handy. My only critique is that I wish they were a little more explicit in the instructions that many perceived defects, misalignments or gaps will be addressed later with trimming and/or cosmetic pieces. I found myself trying to correct sizing or misalignments myself as I went along not realizing that they had taken those errors or inaccuracies into account and would be addressed later with trim that would conceal any misalignments. I'm also concerned about what I'm going to do when I move (I currently rent) - will I be able to easily dissesemble and move? But otherwise, I'm happy with the purchase and quality and the satisfaction that comes with assembling and building something yourself. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by A fabulous shed! I absolutely love my new shed! It looks lively in my yard, especially with the cedar stain I put on it. I have a little house and yard and this shed holds the mowe, wagon, trimmer and tools with ease. It's perfect. A friend and I had it put together in like 4 hours. The directions were very well written. I heartily recommend the garden chalet! September 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little shed This is a great little shed and was fairly easy to put together. All parts are included and directions read well. Comes in 3 100 lb boxes that are easily opened and unloaded. Only thing you will need buy is stain or paint September 20, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Wonderful, Quality Shed This product was exactly as described, it was delivered on time and in good condition. The shed had good craftmanship and is sturdy and well made. I am sure our family will be enjoying it for years to come. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a nice looking high quality large outdoor shed. The only negative is that it takes time to assemble but it was well worth it in the end. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product Love the product. Well made, great attention to detail and easy to follow directions. August 30, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Fine purchase It's super-cute and I installed it in a day. Everyone loves it. A couple of notes: 1. You really don't need a nail gun, as some have suggested, unless you're in a terrible hurry. 2. The OLT people were great, calling ahead of time for questions, making sure I knew the installation hotline, 3. Directions are pretty good, though I did lose an hour or two because I had to build it against a wall (so had to build back first). I'd suggest a little clearer instructions for this possibility. It was tricky and I had to improvise. 4. As everyone else says, pay very close attention to keeping things square. You most likely won't be perfect, but getting the walls right saves a lot of time down the road. Take your time to save time, and read instructions carefully. September 8, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Amazing! The shed is a great buy. We ended up putting it against our house so we stained all the back pieces before we started. Then we built the whole shed but did not install any trim pieces. We stained the shed and the trim pieces and then installed them. I would recommend to stain/seal the shed for extra protection and doing it before you put the trim pieces on is important as you might not be able to get your brush in the cracks. We used Behr Weatherproofing Transparent in Cedar Naturaltone and it turned out great! September 30, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great shed and great company Where do I start. This shed kit is great and OLT has a wonderful product and great customer service. They let you know what to expect from shipping to recommendations for painting/staining and putting in a.solid base. The assembly video gives you a heads up on what's involved and the instructions are thorough. Each step is cross referenced to parts that are labeled. It took my husband and me about a day to put in the paver base and two half days to stain all the pieces. The assembly took a full day, but we were kinda taking it easy and not rushing. May 29, 2016
