lay down a piece of plywood to act as a cutting board. lay the insulation paper face down. measure the length you wish to cut and lay a 2x4 across as a straight edge. lean on the 2x4 to compress the fiberglass and cut with a utility knife.

Answer:
A utility knife works best for cutting fiberglass insulation. In the interest of safety, it is advisable to wear a protective mask as well as other protective wear--gloves, etc.

Customer Reviews

Rated 3.2 out of 5 by 18 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Easy to install I don't know if they fixed the smell issue that many reviewers seem to have had, or if I just got a good batch. Mine didn't smell like anything (It tastes horrible, though). One recommedation is for a grid to be printed on the paper to assist in cutting it straight, and to be able to measure out sections without having to use the tape measure. Friction install is great - no stapling. I didn't itch at all afterward. The package mentions 'soft to the touch', which I found odd, but I think they meant 'doesn't make you itch like all heck' like the insulation I've previously used. August 21, 2015
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Smells awful - thought house was on fire My contractor installed this today in my bathroom. He had also redone some electrical in there. When I walked into the house I thought something was on fire. I opened the bathroom door and looked for flames. I was going to call the fire department, because I couldn't see what was burning. Luckily, before wasting the FD's time, I went into the garage. The extra fiberglass insulation was in there and it smelled like fire. So, I googled smoke smell fiberglass insulation. I found that I'm not the only one who has had this problem. I've turned on the bathroom fan, opened windows and put a large fan to remove the smell. If it's not gone by tomorrow, I'm having it removed. February 5, 2015
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by No smell issue for me I purchased about a dozen bags of the R38 (12") to insulate my Cathedral ceiling. I did not notice any strong burnt candy smell. I'm one of those people who is extremely sensitive to perfumes, diesel fuels, etc. so if there's anyone who would be complaining, it would be me! I do not notice any strong odor, although there is a tiny bit of an odor. I would not say it's objectionable at all, and once my plastic vapor barrier is in place, I think it will be fine. I also tried Roxul insulation, and I can say if your local store has it, buy it. absolutely love this stuff. Easy to cut with a serrated knife, and does not sag. Easy to fit around electrical boxes, etc. Here in Alaska, they discontinued the product (no idea why), but again it's the best insulation I've ever used in 37 years. I continue to use the rigid foam insulation for exterior use or foundations, but Roxul is the bomb otherwise. Back to the eco-temp for a moment, I wore a Tyvek suit, respirator and goggles along with rubber gloves. Where the insulation did touch my skin around my neck ,and hair, I did notice some skin irritation. Not nearly as bad as traditional fiberglass though. Again, I'm not sure if people were getting a bad batch or not, but at least I can report no objectionable smell as of September 2015. September 23, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by thank you for the "odor" reviews I finished the attic above the garage and noted that the carmel corn smell was really strong. I started checking the shop lights / electrical work I recently did. Then I thought to google it before panicking. While the smell won't concern me in my application, I am very grateful folks have noted it in the reviews. December 21, 2014
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Not sure why it was reduced close to 50% but timing couldn't have been more perfect This product had ben reduced by close to 50%, not sure if it was being discontinued or what but we had just finished adding a room to our house and I sat down turned on the laptop searched your site saw the deal and it couldn't have been any easier to purchase. We had it in and up and I bought more than needed to insulate a pump house that we had just resided and had been running heater in there to keep water from freezing. Order was processed in an hour and we picked it by the next morning. Fast courteous and great service at the store we purchased from. Great staff. December 27, 2011
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Insulation projects made easy... I buy & use a lot of insulation products. The Owens Corning products are by far the best. They are less dusty & very easy to handle & cut. My only complaint would be that Home Depot doesn't carry enough unfaced products. As a contractor I would rather use unfaced product over faced product because is cheaper & easier to install than faced product. July 17, 2014
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Smells - Burnt Candy I read the reviews on this insulation prior to buying and figured they had to have corrected the smell issues by now..... nope. Insulation sat in my basement for 1 week still in the packaging and the entire basement stank like burnt candy. Thank god I didn't install it. Took it all back and went to HD's competitor for insulation. May 19, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by basement Eco Touch insulation has provided me with some very quick solutions to my home projects. From the effectiveness in reducing noise out of the utility room to keeping the echo’s down between floors. The ease of installation is worth the return. July 21, 2014
