Batts Insulation

Batts

Come in pre-cut lengths for faster installation and each package contains more square feet than rolls; ideal for framed cavities

Customer Questions & Answers

Is there any "faced" attic insulation?

Asked by: Anonymous
Yes there is. Owens Corning sells it. Just look for attic faced. But be sure you are placing the kraft facing on the warm side. If you already have insulation in your attic and there is a Kraft facing already in place with the existing, do not add additional Kraft faced insulation to increase your R value. Use unfaced. You don't want a double vapor barrior.

How many bags would i need for 1300 sq, ft.?

Asked by: Anonymous
What you need to look at is the length of your ceiling, floor or wall cavities. If your cavities are 16 on center (distance between studs, floor joists or roof rafters, then just look at the length the insulation. If you buy the precut pieces, they are cut either 15 or 24 inches to fit the existing cavity. The length is the key. Multiply the length by all the lengths of your cavities. The widths are standard.

I have a home with a large 1400 sq foot attic. there is zero insulation. The attack is large enough to stand in and move around on the rafters. There is a ton of romex up that that may need work in the future. I was thinking about getting the batts or roll and laying or rolling our across the rafters as opposed to to blowing in so i can easily pick up if I need to do electric work in the future. Does anyon see any problems with this plan?
Asked by: Nick
Installing batts over the floor joists can be done; however, from a maintenance standpoint, it really isn't necessary to have access to the romex. If you have any further questions, please contact Owens Corning at 1-800-GET-PINK. Thank you for your inquiry!

Is this for 16 inch on center joists??

My floor joists sre 16 inch OC which means 15 inch space for insulation. This product says width is 16 inches thus would be too tight a fit. Or is the insulation 15 inches wide and the kraft paper a half inch on each side thus making it 16 inches wide?? Thx.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Better than the huge roll and much better than lowes Great insulation and much more appealing to the eye (and a better value) than the same insulation at Lowes. I applied this R30 between the joists of my new addition and was amazed how easy it was to instal over the continuous rolls. There was a noticeable difference in the floor temperature as soon as I installed it. I also covered the insulation with plywood to protect it from the elements and moisture. Here's a tip, if you're buying more than a few try and get a pre bundled pack (they're wrapped in plastic mesh which makes transporting them much easier). Pay attention to the rebates as well. Here in California we have a local utility rebate as well as the federal tax credit!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from It has very little loose fibers It is a good product with very little loose fibers. Just remember to open the bag where you need. The volume really increases when opened. It would be helpful for pricing it the square footage was included in the product description.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Terrible quality control! I picked up a 4 of these in a large wrapped bundle at my local HD. I made the mistake of opening the bundles and packages the day I had to do the insulation work. To my horror, all of the pieces in *all 4* bags (44 total pieces) had the kraft paper glued on incorrectly/crooked/off-center. Some even had big splotches of deep pink coloring chemicals. One was so bad that the paper was glued on all crinkled on less than half of one side! The problem with the paper being off center is that one side has too much paper to staple and the other has none. Terrible, terrible, terrible. To think I was going to buy another product and figured it's better to go with the name brand. Now I have to compress them back in order to return them. Arrrgh. Lesson: Check the ends before you buy this!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Overall not a bad product I just installed 36! packages of it in the crawl space. The packages kind of explode once you cut the plastic bag and the insulation expands to 3-4 times the size. Some batts didn't expand to the 9-1/2" size but only to 4"-5" and I had to pull them to size. The product cuts easily with a box cutter. There are little loose pieces but if you install it overhead there are still plenty of fibers to fall on you and make you itch.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Too bad it does not come in rolls The R-30 with the backing is what I was looking for to put between the boards to staple up. The only thing I found was the cut pieces, this does make it easy to work with and easy to cut if you are careful. Remember to wear long shirts, mask, and something over the eyes in case something falls in. This stuff is very easy to work with and goes up fast and easy. I am going to put this up in between the floors to help with the sound and help keep the floors hot and cooler also. This is the reason I am picking the R-30. Both are easy to work with on the R-30 with and with out backing. The backing I need is to staple up if in the attic then go with out the backing. Between walls go with the backing where you need it.
