how much insulation do i need need for a 11x14 ceiling with cathedral ceilings

Asked by: wharry
Hi Wharry, To calculate how much insulation you'll require, you'll need to calculate the roof pitch/slope in order to gauge the area being covered with the batt insulation. Also if your joist/rafter spacing is greater than 16" on center, then you will require more material for cutting and shaping. 11'X14' is 154 sq. ft. and each package covers approximately 44 sq. ft... So my estimate is that you'll need approximately 4-5 packages of insulation at minimum to complete your job depending on roof shape and complexity. Thanks

We recommend installing R-38C in order to achieve R-38 and maintain the recommended airspace in a 2x12 cathedral ceiling. Thank you for your inquiry!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from So far so good A HD sales person came to my house conducting a Window Replacement project measurement suggested me to apply additional insulation to my attic, so I did the research. I purchased almost a dozen of this R38 insulation and applied them myself to the attic. I can feel a big difference even when I only finished half of the attic that my entire 2nd floor cools down a lot even during weather with strong sunshine. Very happy with it, will see how much cost on heating bill I could save during winter time

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Went down well My husband and son put this down in half of our attic. They wore masks, gloves, long sleeves, and their eyeglasses. We had bat exclusion done and the old R19 insulation was pulled up and disposed of. They had to get this down before cold weather. My husband liked these batts much better than those that were excluded! Seriously, he preferred the batts to the rolls. They went down easily and now we're up to R38. We bought enough to do the rest of the attic next year. I could feel a difference right away in the temperature of the two rooms and hallway where this insulation was laid above.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Home Insulation Project My home was built in 1979 with approximately 8" of blown-in insulation (Virginia Climate). Put Owens Corning R-38 on top of existing insulation and it keeps the upper floor cool and quiet. This is an excellent product and has the facing for moisture control. Easy to install and very effective. Would recommend this product to anyone with an older home or to supplement existing insulation. Additionally, this product is well worth the cost because of it's heat resistance and area coverage.
