My garage door is old and there is only one spring on each side of the two car garage.

The one who installed the garage door opener said I need to change the spring because it is different in size, one is 28-1/2 inches and the other is 30-1/2 inches long. It is only one spring per side. I want to buy new springs but don't know what to buy. The contractor wants $75.00 for each spring (maybe that include the labor) and I think it is very expensive. Can you help me? I am an old widow and I don't have much money to have contractors charge me excessively for materials. My brother was the one who installed the springs. Can you please help me find the right spring? The door is for 2 car and is made of corrugated metal and wood frame.

Rated 5.0 out of 5 by 2 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Garage door spring replacement Installed relatively easily considering it was a "helper spring" for opening the garage door. The one that broke was also this brand--it was purchased about 25 years ago. They work, last a long time, and have a safety rod in the spring. October 4, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by P728 28 in. Plug-End Extension Spring (0.177 in. No. 7 Wire) Used these on my trailer rear door and they worked great. I can open and close the 180 lb. door with one hand now, Just make sure of your weight load as they make many different spring rates and lengths. There is a good video in the picture display of the product or You Tube for garage door spring DIY replacement. July 20, 2016
