Customer Questions & Answers

How much wood will this 24oz bottle treat?

I have a sill plate in an outdoor shed that is rotting and was infested with carpenter ants. The shed is approx. 15ft. by 30ft. How much of this product would I need.
Asked by: matt
This sounds like a larger project than I have ever attempted. I usually order more than I need as I can return unopened bottles. The opened bottles are good to have on hand and will keep. The amount you will need will depend on how much product is absorbed or spills over. From your description, I would get two bottles and see how far the first one goes. If you only need one, return the other, but I expect that you will need both as I would give that sill multiple treatments.

Can I use a portion of this product at at time, if I want to apply multiple layers, or do you have to use it all at once?
Asked by: garyb444
I have used this product to patch large holes a layer at a time by mixing small batches and then applying. It adheres well to itself and to surrounding wood, especially if the previous layer is almost completely set. Using layers allows you to match the contours that you are trying to fix. Just mix only enough each time you apply a layer.

Can the wood be stained after the filler is dry? Specs mention paint but not stain. I want to repair my deck and restain it.
Asked by: Bea
Although I have used this product many times, I have never tried to use stain, and I would not recommend it as there is no grain to be seen after it sets. Painting works very well so that you cannot see where the wood has been patched. Perhaps a dark stain would work, but I think you would be able to see the patch.

24-oz. PC-Rot Terminator is rated 4.4 out of 5 by 20.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from The PC Woody Rot Terminator was a necessary, but not... The PC Woody Rot Terminator was a necessary, but not sufficient, product for me. By this I mean that it was the necessary first step as a hardener applied after the soft, rotted areas of exterior wood sills, skirt boards and other trim were removed back to the stable wood and given time to dry. It it a viscous liquid that dries very slowly, at 3 to 7 days, and must be "painted' slowly in layers in holes on sloped or vertical surfaces or installed with a fine mesh where there are small holes in the bottom of larger holes. I used it to saturate and harden the remaining good wood in holes, but I had to use PC Woody Epoxy Paste to fill the them, and then sand them flush with the existing good wood. The Wood Paste is difficult to use because it is thicker and stickier than "peanut butter" as advertised, but with patience, produces very good results. I recommend having sanding blocks with handles and corner sanders to make quality sanding quicker. Taken as a whole, PC Woody Rot Terminator and Epoxy Paste are a very good system for patching moderate sized holes in exterior wood. The on-line and printed literature that came with the Rot Terminator was not clear and read as if this product alone was sufficient for filling holes, which it was not. PC Woody should provide accurate product literature and Home Depot should stock these product in their stores as well as have knowledgable workers on hand to advise about their proper use. It was inconvenient to wait a week to get an order of the Rot Terminator from Home Depot, so I bought the Epoxy Paste from a retailer who stocked it in house. In summary, the products, though tricky to use, are very good, but the information and delivery system were not.

The only reason I didn't give it 5* is the fact that the directions are very vague. I personally think they should say to drill the holes before you mix the hardener and resin. If you mix the stuff you better hurry and drill the holes. If you feels the bottle getting hot you better hurry up and use it cause it's gonna get hard while in the bottle.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from It saved the rotted window frame I found the lower 1/4 of a window frame badly rotted when I went to change an air conditioner. I had heard of this product and only found it on Home Depot on line. After knocking out all the very loose rotted wood which went all the way to the 2x4 framing, I let the remaining wood dry out then drilled many 3/16" holes every where until I got good wood. I filled the holes with Terminator and brushed all the surfaces both inside and out with as much of the product as it would hold. The next day I found all the wood was hard and solid so I started filling the area with Plastic Wood filler. It took a couple applications to bring the surface back to normal levels. it came out great and would recommend Terminator to anyone who doesn't want the big job of replacing a major wood project....Ralph

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works very well. I have some wood on my house. So I used this product to fix some of the root. It flows nicely into week rotted wood and hardens. Appears to repeal water as well. Easy to mix up, and application is simple, though you may want to drill some small holes to facilitate getting this product into the wood.
