Customer Questions & Answers

Does the Portacool Cyclone 3200 have to be outdoors because it needs airflow or because of carbon dioxide?

Were trying to purchase these for our church. they would be placed in big Garage bays. The garage is 7000 sq ft, but we aren't trying to cool the entire thing. We just don't want to have to open the garage doors, if it's not necessary. There is pllenty of air flow in there.

This unit will work inside or outside. It is an electric unit so you do not have to worry about carbon dioxide. This type of cooler is more efficient in a dry climate. It will still work but with less efficiency when it is humid. I use it in Arizona in my shop and on the patio. It does move the air well and provide good circulation.

Using indoors

Can I use it in my 56x12 mobile home in Florida?
Asked by: wingman
Yes, but there should be a defined place (window, door, etc.) in which the air from the unit can be exhausted from the area being cooled, and outside air drawn in to prevent the unit from recirculating air that has already been through the cooling process.

Is this unit loud? Or can you have a conversation about 5 feet from it?

Cyclone 3200 CFM 2-Speed Portable Evaporative Cooler for 700 sq. ft. is rated 4.1 out of 5 by 12.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from nice unit Works very good, it's also nice and quiet, little pricey though. I had one that was mounted in the window of my garage and it cools just as well. The best thing about the cyclone is, I can move it and point it right at me, unlike the window mount. Good job port-a-cool!!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Great purchase This is my second one I purchased, bought one last summer and love it. My dogs like sleeping in garge so I would move it in there during work week, then on weekend I would move it to shop. Got tired of moving back and forth so I bought another one for shop. They are a little pricey but they wont rust, and you can move them where ever you want without hurting them. In Arizona when there is no humidity (most of the time) they drop the temp 25 to 30 degees.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Expensive, but it works well The unit does work well but has some weird design issues and in my opinion is overpriced, as are the replacement kuul pads. This really is just an evaporative/swamp cooler on wheels, the only thing that sets it apart from comparable coolers is that it has an all plastic body so it won't rust. The materials and build quality are just okay, the way that some of the screws were driven into the plastic body give me the impression that this product is hastily assembled on a factory line. The odd thing about this and the Cyclone 3000 (I've had both) is that air only blows out the top half of the louvered opening, if you look closely at the pictures you will see that the bottom half is blocked by the squirrel cage housing, it still blows a lot of air but half that opening is useless. The other weird thing is that the louvers can only direct the air output up or down, not side to side, so you only get direct cooling if you are directly in the narrow stream of air. Another annoying design flaw is that the plastic retainer that screws on the back is supposed to direct the falling water toward the pads, in order to avoid water from sprinkling on the ground it must make contact with the pads, but doesn't. I have modified to just to touch the pads and it works fine now. For such and expensive unit it would have been nice to have a variable speed motor and more control over air flow direction. I am recommending this product because, even with its flaws and price, it does function and cool nicely.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Keeps you cool on your patio The only complaint i have is the water hose connection. I would have rated it excellent if it sealed better. Other than that it works great!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Cyclone 3200 I read the helpful reviews from others and thought that this would be the best unit for me to use outside and inside of my 2.5 car garage. I live in Dallas Last week before pouring a concrete section, I purchased the Cyclone 3200. Within 90 minutes of use I detected the smell of heated or burning plastic coming from the unit. I though that this was just the break-in period. The next morning I turned the unit on and the blower motor started making a loud groaning noise. I simply had a faulty unit. The Owners Manual had a troubleshooting guide which identified and gave a resolution for the niose that I heard however, I wasn't going to repair a unit less than 24 hours old, so I exchanged the unit at HD. The new unit worked perfect outside and was powerful enough to feel airflow from 10-15' away. The problem was that it was directional. One step to the left or right and I was out of the path of cool air. Also if you look through the louvers, you can observe that the lower half of that large opening is covered or blocked. I suppose this is to keep the blower the most efficient. My thoughts are; this this unit is great if you don't need a wide path of air or if you just want to cool your garage. My dogs were comfortable in the garage with the unit on. I dont think that they like the standard fan anymore. If this is what you were looking for, this may be the unit for you. I want more cfm so I'm ordering the Jetstream 1600. .............I'll write a review on it in a few weeks.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from I thought it would be well made....... I live in Arizona home of the dry heat. If you are going to spend any amount of time on the patio in the summer you need a cooler. I bought the Port-A-Cool brand hoping it would last many years. The unit lasted about 70 days before the pump developed a problem. The water pump would shut off at random and the pads would dry out. If I switched it off and on it would work for a little bit and then stop pumping. This unit is expensive, $800, but I looked at it as an investment in a tool I would have for a long time. I was able to return the first cooler to Home Depot and swap it for another one. Thank you Home Depot! The new one did not fill properly. It appeared the in line for the water had something blocking the line. The pads in the back do not get fully wet, but it looks like a thick pad so I am guessing it is getting enough water. When the unit works it cools very well. It is a great unit for a patio or shop in a dry climate. The volume of air is very good. It has a two speed blower. It is not made out of metal so it will not rust like metal units. I do not believe it is worth the cost. In hindsight I should have purchased a metal one, for less than half the price, and replaced it when it rusted.
