Can this product be used immediately on newly installed pressure treated decking

Asked by: Andrea
You can, but you should wait for the wood to cure about three weeks before you stain it.

If the stain must absorb to be effective as most oil stains do, why would you apply a second coat a day after the first coat? That seems like a disaster waiting to happen. Especially if the stain contains a wood waterproofing sealer.
Asked by: lmentzel
Hi there, We recommend applying just one coat.

I am planning to strip the existing stain and sealant off my 20 year old pressure treated deck and then re-stain and seal it. Is this acceptable for the application of PPG Timeless and should I apply one or two coats? Thanks...
Asked by: Moe
Hi Moe, this stain will work. And only one coat is needed.

I RECENTLY USED PAINT AND SEALER ON MY DECK.WOULD THIS PRODUCT PENETRATE THE CURRENT SURFACE FOR BETTER PROTECTION
Asked by: CHICKYB
Hi there! We would not recommend that because the stain needs to be able to penetrate into the wood directly.

Cedar Transparent Penetrating Wood Oil Exterior Stain is rated 4.9 out of 5 by 11.
Rated 5 out of 5 by from PPG Wood Oil Exterior Stain 3 GAL My fence is over 10 years old and the weather-worn look is settling in. It was time to spruce the fence up a bit so after a pressure wash we applied the PPG Cedar Transparent Penetrating Wood Oil Exterior Stain Because of the age and condition of the fence it took more stain than we expected. The stain application is easy, just time consuming for a large area. It’s a stain and sealer in one so we should see protection from mold, mildew and algae. The back yard is sunny but the manufacturer states there is powerful UV protection to protect the color. Looks like a new area. The second picture shows the difference in the unstained fence and the new application.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Very good penetration and sealing of wood surfaces I recently took possession of a load of VG red cedar that has been exposed to the elements for the past couple years. After running it through the planer and drum sander the wood looks pristine again. I have used this wood for the top of a patio table and wanted to maintain the beautiful grain of the wood and yet protect it from further damage. I chose the Cedar Transparent Penetrating Cedar stain and sealer by PPG. I applied the first coat and a second coat a day later. The stain penetrates well into the wood fiber to a depth of a little over 1/8". The transparency of the stain brings out the great luster of the wood and being an oil stain and sealer it should hold up well to the elements. The stain goes on smooth using a paint gun and cleans up easily with spray gun cleaner. I am very pleased with this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the Oxford color I used this on a board and batten project on my barn. The wood was freshly rough sawn Douglas fir. I went over each piece quickly with a palm sander before putting the Oxford Brown oil stain on. If brushed on heavy and left I found it a little too dark for my taste, so what I did was brush it on heavy and let it soak for 3-5 minutes before buffing the excess off with a rag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Oil based, super penetrating, nice color This is a three gallon container of cedar tone transparent penetrating wood oil stain. The metal container has an easy pour spout that allows you to reseal the container tight. Application is best with a pad or roller, although you can use a sprayer. For new wood, you should apply a couple of coats a day apart or if an annual application, a heavy solo coat. Make sure the wood is clean and dry. If applying over weathered wood make sure you remove any stains/mildew, and power wash or use chemical prep. The stain/oil really seeps into the wood. The color is a “standard” cedar tone, not to dark, and the grain of the wood will show through. Coverage for the three gallons is rated at about 1000 sq. ft., and is dependent on whether the wood is new or has been stained before. This is an oil based product, clean up with mineral spirits, and it takes a good day to dry, but you are best to let it sit at least two days without walking on it. The stain/oil is mildew resistant UV/Fade resistant, and provide a good water barrier. Water beads on the surface. Overall, a nice looking finished product offering good protection and durability.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Transparent Wood Oil Based Stain This review is for the 3 Gal Cedar Transparent Exterior Stain in Cedar I have used other stains before and even outside they smell to high heaven, this one is no exception. I also used a low VOC version on the inside of my fence with good results and the smell was much less. I live on a hill and just was not up to doing the fence work myself, but I wanted to do the stain part. I put on this stain with a roller just like painting a wall. Since the fence was new I had no prep work. The stain went on easily and covered well. My surface was cedar and the end result looks good. This adds more color to your wood which gives it a warm look, but being transparent shows the character of your wood. This should keep it all looking new.

Coverage is consistent with label also. Color is exactly what I wanted. Not too dark on treated pine. I let structure stand 1.5 years before staining and that proved to be good.
