Can this be used with a paint sprayer? Is it better used on raw wood or can it be applied over existing if prepped first? Thanks
Asked by: Momma
Yes it can be used with a paint sprayer. Just be sure you have paint thinner to run through your sprayer after you use any oil products. It's best to use on raw wood. It might be possible to use over existing stain but with many caveats. One of which is if to be sure water is absorbing into the wood in order to accept the new stain. Also, if the existing stain color is much different, you won't know the exact end color.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from I like the Oxford color I used this on a board and batten project on my barn. The wood was freshly rough sawn Douglas fir. I went over each piece quickly with a palm sander before putting the Oxford Brown oil stain on. If brushed on heavy and left I found it a little too dark for my taste, so what I did was brush it on heavy and let it soak for 3-5 minutes before buffing the excess off with a rag.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Delivers on its promises. This really seems to stand up to the elements well. It rains here often and my deck still looks great. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

PPG Timeless goes on like "liquid silk" ; Weather you roll it, brush it, or spray it I have told every one I know how beautiful this product is as well as it is a pleasure. I know it sounds a little over the top but I truly enjoyed the drudgery of staining and sealing (by my self) 180sq ft of deck plus thirty large sections of lattice. I completed 90% of the project using a quality brush but I did use a sprayer on some hard to get to areas. The representative told me the product is one coat coverage and it truly is a one coat coverage product; I will admit that I did choose to apply two coats on some of the most vulnerable areas that the sun beats on the most. PPG Timeless wood oil is well worth the time. I was fighting weather and even after ten straight days of solid rain beginning within 36 hours of painting this stain held up never faded the color, great water proofing and VERY Important - my steps and deck floor did not become slippery when/while wet. This stain is semi-transparent so I am happy it did not give my deck the painted wood look. It is gorgeous I would give this product ten stars and I am asking neighbors if they have any wood they would like me to treat for them. I will be a very loyal customer to this product. I would add a photo but I do not have that ability I would be glad to mail one to anyone that asks though. I purchased 12 gallons in May expecting to not have enough and I completed the project beautifully using just a little over three gallons. I have a lot of extra but with the two year shelf life I will find use for it all.
