It seems to me that if I don't know if something has asbestos I should leave it alone until I know.

Answer:
Touching asbestos is not hazardous. Breathing it is. If you have asbestos tile and you do not abrade it or otherwise turn it into dust, it will not harm you.

Rated 3.1 out of 5 by 64 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Asbestos test kit The kit was easy to use and after I sent it off the lab sent me an e-mail to let me know they received it. I also was sent the final report in a timely manner. Very professional. July 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Performed as expected. No issues. Performed as expected. The test kit / instructions were easy. Received our asbestos content by email. It took a few days, but we weren't in a rush. July 6, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Easy enough Pretty straight forward, scrape it up put it in the bag and mail it off. Week later results June 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great Product & Service for DO IT YOURSELF Test Asbestos test kit was excellent for the money. Kit includes bag and gloves for sample collection. Plus postage pre-paid return envelop. I registered my kit online with no issues. Collected the sample per instructions and send it off. You do need to send $40 for the analysis to be performed. This is a very reasonable charge. I received my test results in about five working days after they received the sample. The only bad thing about the whole process was that my Home Depot did not stock the test kit and I had to order online and go back to the store to pick it up I would highly recommend Pro-Lab for asbestos analysis. Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Read the fine print This kit is only to prepare a sample for a lab... You will still have $40 to spend for a lab test. Don't waste your money. June 30, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Asbestos Kits hard to find Mistakenly thought that the cost of the test included the test itself as was the case with the radon test that I purchase. Consequently I found a local test company that was much cheaper than the one that I purchase. If I lived away from a city with testing abilities I would definitely recommend this kit as it is easy and not that expensive to get the results and know for sure what you are dealing with. May 25, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by way below expectation Mortified that this product didn't come with a respirator. Be sure to buy one as this is more important than anything else when doing this test or handling asbestos. I tried to register my kit online, but there is no where to do this. When I called Prolab about the registration I was told that the "website must be down." The website was working fine, but there is no where to register the product. As per other reviews, I guess Home Depot is still selling an outdated kit, because I couldn't register it online and it still says results in five days on the packaging. I'm a little skeptical of how the rest of my experience will go. April 21, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Inexpensive and easy to use The instructions could have been a bit easier to understand. But after reading twice to be sure, it all was pretty user-friendly. One thing though....the product that I received was an older version of this test which indicated that results would be returned within 5 days after received by the testing lab. When I called the lab to ask why I had not received my results, they informed me that they updated their turn-around time (now within 7 days after receipt) and they told me I had an old/outdated test kit (from their previous 5 day turnaround time). Otherwise, everything went according to plan. Thanks. April 11, 2016
