Customer Questions & Answers

In which lab are your samples tested?

I'd like to know more about the location and accreditation of the lab that you're using to perform the test. Is it certified to test residential drinking water for lead by the state of Wisconsin?

What does the lab report show? Do you have to be a rocket engineer to read the test? Will it show graphs?

I have seen some test results from different labs, and you could not tell what the good range was aganst the bad danger range. I would like to know if you are able to see ranges and where my water fits in the streem of things. How many pages is the report? I know alot to answer.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Lead-in Water Test Kit The Cover of the box states "Do It Yourself" but the back in very very fine print tells you to mail in sample with $30! It was not returnable at Home Depot even thought it was not opened. I received a store credit and took advantage of the free test kits on the rack at the Home Depot exit door. I received those results via email in just over a week.

I thought that I was going to test my water supply for around $10.00 but when I opened the package and read the instructions I find that it will cost another $45.00 (forty-five) to have tested! Had I known I would have shopped around. More importantly I also learned that water can be tested for free by the County and City of Portland (but not Troutdale)

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Read the small print. Though I'm sure this product works, after I got it home I saw that a $30 lab analysis fee was required for standard lab results. This title of the product says "Lead in Water Do It Yourself Test Kit", which this is not. If the $30 fee had been included in the price, I wouldn't be so disappointed.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from Decent product, better instructions and company transparency are needed Pro-Lab provides a number of tests for indoor air quality, surface contaminants, and water quality. Pro-Lab is not a certified drinking water laboratory, but the company that the outsource water testing to, Florida-Spectrum Environmental Services is certified by Florida's Department of Health. Florida-Spectrum says that they can identify lead in water samples at 1 part per billion (ppb). EPA guidelines state that action must be taken when water contains 15 or more ppb, though harm can occur at much lower levels than that. Water samples that are tested by a certified laboratory will be much more accurate than home testing and analysis (e.g. using strip tests). As others have noted the lab testing fee is $30, which is quite reasonable. It is important to remember that before sampling, water should remain in the household pipes for at least 6-8 hours to get a more accurate representation. That means not using sink, flushing of toilets, using the shower or dishwasher, etc. A liter of water should be drawn, and a sample taken from that. Remember to read reviews, do your research, and test in more than once to get the most accurate results. EPA drinking water lab finder for all states and territories -

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Satisfied customer I wanted to check my tap water for lead as I live in a house built in 1920's and have a new granddaughter. I bought this kit at Home Depot and it clearly stated on outside that there was a $30 cost for the lab. It included clear instructions and a plastic tube to collect the water and a mailing envelope for sending to the lab. I mailed the sample on Oct 7th, received an email that the lab had received it on Oct 13th and a lab report in pdf format via email on Oct 16th. I consider that excellent customer service and good communication. I have to assume that the lab results were accurate as I have no reason to think otherwise.
