For the price it is excellent. Gas backup is better, but the trade off of not having to go have tanks filled makes this a nice little machine. Technique helps a great deal, so skills and practice make the difference.
Works well on car body panels, and patches.

Though I'm still getting used to it, I can tell that this welder will last a lifetime, the entire thing is made durable just like things were 20 years ago. And it has served me well especially since as soon as i got it the need for it started popping up everywhere. Neighbors pay me to do repairs on their stuff and i learned how to use it in just a few hours.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Rich79102 User manual doesn't say whether this thing uses straight or reverse polarity
Any wire you buy provides the required polarity on the. Product label, I.e., DCEN (most common in flux core welding), or DCEP(gun positive)

I've never welded before but bought this to repair some broken welds on my scooter muffler and tailpipe. After practicing about 30 minutes with some scrap steel I was able to reweld the tailpipe to the muffler. It's holding well after 50 or so miles If you've soldered before then you'll be able to use this. I got some good tips along the way by watching some welding videos on youtube.

I purchased this welder to fix an exhaust pipe. I have welded on a 230v lincoln professional welder. Obviously this welder doesn't stack up to a 230v's power but it does a great job for small welds. And that being said, i was surprised by the power this unit has. I test welded a few pieces of thin scrap and this welder burned right through with no problem. Thermal protection was never tripped even when i had to run a weld along an exhaust pipe seam.
It is easy to set up and comes with everything you need except gloves and stuff to weld. Flux core welds are somewhat messy. Lots of spatter compared to a welder with shielding gas but for the money you can't go wrong here. If you plan to use this welder more than for emergency fixes, its worth buying a real mask. The hand held face shield is functional but i like to use both hands to weld. Also i caught my hair on fire a little. Even if this welder didnt come with a mask or spool id still buy it.
