How would you anchor the base if you are using bricks for a floor?

I don't want to use a wood platform. I would like to use bricks or concrete blocks. Is there a way to secure the structure to the ground?
Asked by: Bob
We are setting a concrete platform for the install of the greenhouse. What will I need? Will I need to install the screws in the concrete?

This lists a foundation but not a floor. There are two types of "Floor/ foundations" shown in the various pictures. A brick red one about 6 inches in height (what height is it actually) - that looks like it's a foundation/ floor combination - and a gray/white, lower height that looks like it's a bit larger and has about a 4 - inch extension beyond / around the base of the building frame. So what's what and what comes with the purchase price - the red or the whits/gray or neither/ something not shown?
Asked by: Reify
You have to build your own foundation. The kit comes with a metal frame skeleton or bottom plate that sits on your foundation. I built my foundation out of pressure treated 2x6 and deck boards and used 3 inch construction screws on the deck boards. I then painted everything with deck paint and placed the greenhouse on top of that.

What is its tolerance to occasional high winds?

Asked by: bofero
If you are not in a tornado state or hurricane state you should be good. Other wise when you place the bottom bracket onto your foundation you can add extra screws not provided in kit into the bottom of the frame as I did. I live in Georgia, around the Fort Stewart area and I put extra 1 1/2 inch wood screws into the metal frame all the way around. My greenhouse sits on a wooden deck I built for the greenhouse. The wind cables that come with the kit were mounted with the lag screws that came with the kit as well. It will take a tornado or hurricane to move the greenhouse.

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Weak Design I bought this greenhouse in May 16 and it looks great On assembly The doors appeared to be too short and wouldn't close properly. I started a 3 months discussion with the manufacturer in Israel, who I had to call!, and who were very defensive and not very helpful, apart from sending several replacement parts which didn't resolve the problem, eventually they agreed I should return it for a refund. I ordered a second greenhouse which went together much easier everything fitted perfectly and looked great... Until we had a small storm last week (40 -50 Km/h winds) when the panels blew out, the doors buckled and the hinges bent. At this point I decided to give up on it and look for something more substantial Great design but just not strong enough for a small wind Home depot have been great about this and have made prompt pickups and refunds

Every single piece was in the packages with some extra! We are retrofitting the side panels with screens for the summer (should be an option). Not bad putting it together if you are organized and take your time! (Words would be helpful in some places). Make sure you anchor it down. Ours is screwed to the deck! Really nice!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Took quite a bit of time to assemble. ... Took quite a bit of time to assemble. and if the greenhouse isn't exactly level and square, the caps for the corners won't fit properly. Overall quality seems to be good and is sturdy once fully assembled.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from 10 FT. X 12 FT. GARDEN CHALET GREENHOUSE After 3 tries at receiving the chalet greenhouse I finally got what I paid for. The first green house came incomplete and I had to send it back to get my a refund. It took a month to get my refund back and then I ordered the greenhouse again but received a discount for the trouble. I received the greenhouse the second time and the box was so damaged that all the pieces were laying in the back of the UPS truck so I refused the order knowing that there would be damaged and missing pieces. So called Home Depot and the manufacture to get a refund again. I ordered the greenhouse for a third time after receiving my refund a month later and I received an additional discount as well. The third order arrived and the box was still damaged and a bag of parts was outside but I excepted it and put the greenhouse together. If it wasn't for the discounts that I received from Home Depot each time I had to return the item and the manufacturer also telling me that it was going to rush the third order at no extra cost, I would not have recommended the greenhouse. I ordered the first green house in July and received the last one in November. We had temperatures drop below freezing and a few of my plants got burnt because of the delay. Now all my plants are in the greenhouse and doing well. The greenhouse went up well with the help of my wife. Not all the parts went on smoothly the first time but they did go in after loosening and adjusting the frame parts then tightening everything again. I recommend buying the vent but you will have to buy additional Plexiglas to cover the vent hole because the plexiglas that comes with the vent kit is to small for the Chalet greenhouse. The doors do not sit well but I am building an extension on the the top plate of the door frame so it the door sits better in the frame. I would also recommend using lock washers or perforated lock washers for every bolt and nut that comes in the kit. The greenhouse kit does not come with any type of lock washers and with the wind vibrating and shaking the house the bolts due come lose. This is an architectural design flaw. I will go back and put these lock washers as I inspect the greenhouse monthly. The roof vents are nice but the locks are very cheap and are made of plastic. Another architectural design flaw. I will more than likely have to replace them in the summer with a metal vent opener. Right now I have the roof vents closed for the winter but since its suppose to be the warmest winter in Georgia history, I will more than likely have to use them more often than I would like to. I put a thermometer in the greenhouse and it stays a constant 80 degrees in the day time and 60 at night. I added an electric outlet and will add a wet light later. I also ran plumbing so I can put a sprinkler or mist system into the greenhouse. This I will do at a later time as well. The electrical and plumbing needs to be planned and added in before you put up the greenhouse depending where and how you intend to run those services. I built a 12x14 deck out of 2x6 and deck boards with drainage rocks first and then built the greenhouse on top of that. Deck was painted with red deck paint. 3 inch construction screws were used to fasten the deck boards down to the 2x6 frame. I screwed the house down to the decking through the holes in the metal frame of the greenhouse with 1 1/2 inch construction screws for added strength from the horizontal winds. I screwed the cable that comes with the greenhouse to hold it down onto the deck using the anchor bolts and brackets that came with the kit. Bolts were pre-drilled into the joist and then the bolts driven down. This prevented splitting of the wood and a stronger hold. I will buy additional cable saddle straps for the cable as the kit only came with 4 cable saddles and you should actually have two on each corner of the cable for a total of 8 cable saddles. Shelves were added to the back and side of the green house but I had to make spacers for the back corners as the vertical bracing did not leave you a way to mount the shelves. I had to add additional long bolts to the back wall step and then drill holes through the vertical bracing to match the shelve holes. The spacer bars in the two corners I cut out of 3/4 inch square aluminum hollow bars I bought at Lowe's and also drilled holes to match the shelves. I set my shelves at 36 inches which made it easy to put up and gave me enough room to have plants below the self and the misting system that I will add later. The instructions do not tell you that the horizontal brace that you put up when your assembling the back wall is temporary; towards the end of construction when you have to put up the vertical bracing you have to remove that horizontal bracing in order to mount the vertical bracing bars to the frame of the greenhouse. I used the horizontal bracing after taking it down to support my electrical outlet box and extension for the lights and lights switch. I cut the bracing to the measurement I needed, drilled bolt holes to match the frame, sprayed painted the brace black and then put it all together next to the front door. It all blends in as if it was part of the kit. The spacers bars I built for the shelves in the two back corners were also painted black and also blend into the frame of the greenhouse as if it were part of the kit. Insure you do a complete inventory of the kit and lay each piece out so it is easy to grab as you need it. The plexiglas needs to be marked as well, I used sticky notes to put the part number on them and did not take the "This side up" tape off of the plexiglas till I started sliding it into place. This ensures you do not mix up the plexiglas and damage it trying to force it into place. Parts should fit snugly into place especially the plexiglas. I used scotch tape to hold the plastic sleeves that go onto the top of the plexiglas because they kept fall off as I slid the glass into place. The clear scotch tape cannot be seen once the plexiglas is in place but it does make things easier to assemble. Double sided tape would also work if you have that. You will also need to purchase some silicone for the plastic gutter pieces that go inside the greenhouse to water proof them as you install them into place. I had some lying around so it was no big deal. The money I saved on the three discounts that I received helped with the purchase of the vents, shelves, and sun screen which my wife bought on Amazon and through the manufacture. That was about a $500 savings altogether.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BEAUTIFUL DESIGN The best way to get started is to arrange by sorting all the parts by the part numbers stickers. you should use plastic containers for the nuts & bolts. The Instructions are just pictures and you need to look carefully to determine the front from the back as you assembled. Be patience when assembling since there are over 90 steps and most have to be duplicated at least twice ( left side and right side) and panels 2- 5 times. Blue tape will keep your roof panels in place as they are inserted in tracks particularly if you use WD 40 for the ease of insertion. It is very important that the base is secured to the pad or ground and is squared before as a first step so everthing will fit. The final result is a beautiful structure.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Best Choice! I am completely amazing by this greenhouse. I must admit I was skeptical about purchasing this greenhouse due to the price, but I decided to go with it and I do not regret it! Its durable, spacious and beautiful! Completes the look with my vegetable garden! We just had a horrible thunderstorm up here in the Poconos and it stood strong through the wind and rain! Totally recommend this greenhouse!
