Genius Prestige Luxury Size 2.2 cu. ft. Countertop Microwave in Stainless Steel with Sensor Cooking-DISCONTINUED is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 27.
Rated 4 out of 5 by from Performance is excellent; support is limited. I bought this microwave based on its extreme capacity, wattage and performance reviews for our new house I was building. I installed it in a cabinet at eye level using the recommended trim kit. We've used it for several years (it has since been replaced in the Panasonic catalog with an identical-looking model with similar specs). The only problem with the unit is that the latch is beginning to hang occasionally, but it still opens. OH--- and the fact that despite its above average power, it produces lousy popcorn. I should add that it cooks everything else remarkably well, usually in about 10-15% less time. Two weeks ago the interior light burned out. There are no instructions in the user manual or on the Panasonic support site for replacing this simple part. After some difficulty, I finally got an East Asian tech support person to tell me that the part is not user serviceable. I found one local shop who would replace the bulb for $115.00, if I brought it in. I removed the microwave from the cabinet and attempted to take the cover off-- only to discover that it is held on with tamper-resistant screws. Fortunately, I have a wide variety of security bits. After waiting a few hours for any internal capacitors to lose their charge, I took off the cover and located the bulb. It's connected by a couple of push-on connectors and once those are removed, you can pop the modular light unit out of the shroud it's mounted in. If I had been given any information by Panasonic about the part number or designation of the light, I could have bought it ahead of time and completed the repair in less than five minutes. As it turned out, I had to remove the bulb and compare it to others on the Internet. It took a week for the part to arrive (I ordered two; the second will be on hand when this situation arises again. I can understand why Panasonic wants to keep their users out of their microwaves. There are some dangerous voltages generated to fire the magnetrons -- or inverters. If they didn't make a reasonable effort to protect their consumers, massive lawsuits could arise.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The Best Microwave After many hours of researching and reading reviews, I settled on a Panasonic with Inverter Technology. It is the best microwave that I have ever used. After several months of use I must say that I am thrilled. This microwave does so much more than a regular microwave and it is a breeze to use. Yes, you need read the instruction Manual as it is different, but it is so much better! My favorite feature is the way it defrosts meat without cooking it. Keeping food warm is also a luxury that you don't find with other microwaves. Don't be intimidated by the dial pad or additional features, after a little learning you won't know how you functioned with a basic microwave. Definitely for those that love to cook!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Quality, Performance and Class at its finest!! I want to start off by saying that I absolutely LOVE this microwave! After upgrading all of our other major appliances we were left to find a microwave and I am very pleased with the Panasonic NN-SE982S. I was a bit concerned after opening the box that it would be too big to fit above my stove...but rest assured it will fit and is being installed next week. In the meantime it has its place on my countertop. It has such a sleek, modern and sophisticated design and at the sametime almost a futuristic appearance to it with the electrostatic touch dial. I was a bit concerned at first at how well the touch dial would work as I was so used to the keypad on our older microwave and I found that the dial was very touch sensitive. It took a bit of getting used to but I had it down within a few days and now I really love it and how easy it is to use. Next was the turbo defrost. This feature really blew me away! For years I have been defrosting ground beef, chicken breasts, steaks etc in the microwave and I almost ALWAYS had the edges come out cooked while the center of the meat was still somewhat frozen. WIth the NN-SE982S I am pleased to say that my meat came out PERFECTLY defrosted with NO cooked edges! Then there was the sensor cooking and reheat functions. We always have leftovers in our house and I do a lot of "make ahead" meals that I freeze for later use. So this function came in very handy and was very effective at accurately re-heating our leftovers and cooking the frozen meals without over-doing it. They came out perfectly like they had just been freshly cooked. I have also cooked potatoes and pasta in the NN-SE982S without any issues and they have come out cooked perfectly. The inverter technology is GENIUS just like the name of the microwave! It is on regardless of power level and is what allows for the accuracy of cooking or reheating! Talk about some worry-free cooking...its like a SMART microwave! The keep warm feature has really come in handy with all of the cold weather we have had. I have been able to ditch my crockpot on occasions and just use this feature on the NN-SE982S. I would place chili or soup in the microwave and activate this feature and be able to go outside and play in the snow with my kids or clear the driveway and when we came back inside we had a meal ready for us that was perfectly warm and ready to eat! Overall I really think that Panasonic has really outdone themselves with the Panasonic NN-SE982S and you can't do any better! Great quality and outstanding performance at its best!

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Full Size Microwave The Panasonic NN-982S Microwave is a beast. If you have the counter space, and like to heat large items, this unit is up to the task. Let's start with the features I liked; 2.2 Cubic Feet of space, you could reheat a turkey in it, not that I actually tried it, but I did put a tall container of soup in that would not have fit in one of the 1.2 cf microwaves (it can fit items 10.5 inches tall, as opposed to the 7.5 inches of the smaller unit I have). The next thing I liked is the Sensor Reheat, just put you leftovers in, and hit the one-touch button (actually, you must also press the start key, so more of a two-touch). I have reheated several types of leftovers, including the aforementioned container of soup, and have been really happy with the results. The only thing to watch out for is if the item you are reheating does not contain much water, as the Sensor is based on steam. I use the Inverter Turbo Defrost feature the most, and have only had a few times that it has not completely defrosted the item. This happens mostly with really thick items. But for the most part, it does it's job well, without actually cooking the thinner parts. My only issue is that it asks for the weight of the item, how much does two chicken breasts weigh? Am I really going to get out a scale and check? No, I will just guess, and I seem to always guess on the lighter side so that it is not always completely defrosted. (that's probably better than the alternative) OK, now some items that I am not too fond of. Let's start with the Electrostatic Touch Dial, a novel design of Panasonic. It looks cool, with it's blue glow, and the purple that displays where your finger makes contact. But, to me, that's about it. I have been using microwaves with number pads all my life, and this actually slows me down. It changes time in a progressive manner. Start spinning your finger around and it starts by individual seconds, up to 10, then increases the step by 5 seconds until you reach 1 minute, where it now goes by 10 second steps, then 15 second steps at 5 minutes. So you could never actually set the time for 5 minutes and 5 seconds. This is not only for cooking time, but it affects the Timer function too. I tried setting the timer for 3:15, but could not do it.(Also, strangely, the timer maxed out at only 1h 30 Minutes.) Now, this is not a deal breaking issue, as it does have one positive effect on the design of the unit, it simplifies the controls. The control panel looks a lot cleaner, and it is easier to locate the other buttons. And really, how accurate do you need to set the time anyway? That does bring me to the one button that is most helpful, the Quick Minute, in which you can just hit the button for an even minute per press(up to 10 minutes). Now here is the opportunity that Panasonic missed, once you have pressed the Quick Minute button for, let's say, 3 minutes, it would have been wonderful if you could now use the dial to add some more seconds, or even use the More/less button to add 10 or 20 more seconds, but no, you are stuck with the whole minutes. So to get 1 minute and 30 seconds, you must spin your finger around the dial approximately 2.25 times. Now for the two buttons I don't use, and could do without. Popcorn and Keep Warm. I think both of those buttons should just be part of the Sensor Cook choices. I make my popcorn in an air popper anyway, but I guess if you are a big microwave popcorn fan, then it would probably be a plus. Keep Warm is not something I would think to use a lot, but then I have a warming drawer in my oven (I have used that twice in the last 10 years). On last item, the Sensor Cook. I have only used it to cook some potatoes, which it did just fine. However, in order to use it, you have to have the Owner's Manual readily available so you know which number is for what. For example, potatoes are #8. But, you can press the Sensor Cook button, then spin the dial to #8 (of 18) and when you stop, it says "Potatoes" on the display. So you could just spin to each number and see what it says. But I think it would have been better to actually display the items, instead of a number, as you spin around the dial. So, if you need a big microwave, that does a great job at reheating food or defrosting automatically, then this unit will make you happy. It has clean lines and an uncluttered control panel, and looks cool. If you prefer the accuracy and speed of a number touch pad, then consider the NN-H965BF, which has all the same features, but has a number pad (the only issue is that it does not come in Stainless)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from The finest microwave I've ever owned I must begin my review by stating, this is the most attractive microwave I have ever owned. Understanding that there only so much you can do with a microwave, I have to say that this one is actually 'sleek' in it's appearance. The push buttons are well designed and their placement is well thought out. Instead of a keypad, Panasonic has opted to use a touch dial. I didn't particularly care for this at first, but after using it for a few weeks, and a bit of patience, I have gotten the hang of it. Using it to set the clock is cumbersome, but for setting the cooking time, it is relatively easy. Panasonic also includes a "Quick Minute" button that allow you to set the time to a specified time, i.e. press it 10 times for 10 minutes. I wish I could use this in connection with the dial, but I cannot. The use of Inverter Technology #using a constant power instead of the power being at 100%, 50% of the time# really is an improvement. A bowl of soup that took 3 minutes to heat, now only takes 1 1/2-2 minutes, and I have found this to be true with all foods. The Turbo Defrost is a nice feature also. In my experience using a microwave to defrost 2 pounds of frozen hamburger, I always had to be careful because I would cook the edges and the center would still be frozen. This did not happen to me with this microwave. I still had to be careful with the edges of the meat, but the center of the ground meat did get thawed at the same time. I have used the "Genius Sensor" also, and again, the sensor was correct in notifying me that my meal was finished. It is very handy. I used this for cooking a 4 pound ham, and it was very nicely done. Also, the Keep Warm setting allowed me to finish a couple other tasks, while keeping the ham warm. Just the fact that Panasonic has created an online cooking school, shows that they have put a great deal of thought in this line of microwaved. One warning - do not use the presets for making popcorn, use the popcorn manufacturer's directions and reduce it by 10 seconds. I burned through a couple bags of popcorn using the Panasonic settings. This is an excellent microwave, and the finest I have ever owned. It has very nice appearance, along with it being very quiet, makes this quite an addition to my kitchen.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Top Notch/Classy I am reviewing the NN-SE982S 1250W 2.2 Cu. Ft. Convertible Microwave. I did a LOT of research before buying this and after I placed the order I was terrified that I might have made the wrong decision getting one so big. NOT! I love this 2.2 and the 1250W. Everything I cook is done in half the time of my previous micro and holds so much. This is truly genius and the defrosting feature seems to be perfect. There is a learning curve because it cooks, reheats and defrosts so much quicker than my previous one, Some complained about the touch dial pad and another said it took them forever to set the clock because of it. Due to the negative comments I was almost afraid to touch the dial. Don't be. It is a snap to use and it is fun. We got the hang of it almost immediately and found that it was easier to set this clock than our previous micro. This one was smart enough not to ask us whether we wanted am/pm. Just one setting! I'm 67 and my husband is 74 and we are extremely happy with this purchase. This is fun to use and we were actually looking for things to cook and/or reheat just so I could use it. Not much to do in retirement. Love the warmer and the timer. Lastly, it is very rich looking and like the blue lights. No regrets on purchasing this.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Gorgeous, intuitive, and smart My first impression of this microwave was how modern and impressive it was in appearance. I had no idea initially what Inverter Technology was but I am now a fan and believer. Essentially, as anyone who has used a microwave in the past could tell you, all microwaves I had used before would cycle on and off when I would use anything other than full power. Inverter Technology actually is on the entire time even at lower power levels and heats your food thoroughly, every time! The Turbo Defrost is nothing short of amazing, set the weight, hit the button, and the microwave will take it from there. If it beeps a couple times, flip your meat over and let it finish, even thawing and the meat isn't cooked like I have had happen before with other microwaves. The Electrostatic Touch Dial is intuitive to use and faster than what you would imagine, simply move your finger around the dial and the more you move it the faster the timer increases up to 90 minutes. It has the buttons you would expect with a few that are very unique. The Sensor Cook and Sensor Reheat are incredible, almost magical, the settings of time and power level get adjusted AUTOMATICALLY! Seriously, it’s like your microwave learned how to cook for you. Finally, the Keep Warm feature is probably my favorite that I have discovered in these cold winter months. I put my chili or beef stew in the microwave, press Keep Warm and set it to half an hour, then I go outside and clear the snow off the drive and sidewalk then head right back inside to my still hot, not remotely burned, just like I left it soup. If you need a new microwave, this is the best choice you can make in my opinion. If you don’t think you need a new microwave then you either have this unit already or you have never seen one in use and simply do not know any better. Once again Panasonic has impressed me, they have quickly moved from being the manufacturer of the television in my living room to being present in every room of my home.
