What is Built-in damper to prevent backdraft?

Asked by: Kumar
That is a little door-like object in the air outlet that prevents air from going backwards into the bathroom from the outside. That is, it makes sure the air only can go one way, which is out.

Not only is it super quiet, but gets the moisture out of the air quickly. Had to order it, however, through Home Depot - it was not in the store. I found out about it through research and customer's reviews. If big box stores don't want to go out of business, I suggest they buy and keep the best in their stores for their customers convenience and then the "no-good" products can fall by the wayside.

Installation was hard do to tight conditions, I have a hip roof. It would have been much easier if vent and junction box could have been removed from inside of frame and frame attached to joist from inside of room also allowing wiring done at same time.

This product definitely delivers its rated 110 cfm and is remarkably quiet. I am very satisfied with it. The only recommendation for product improvement I have is that it would help if the installation instructions provided some instructions regarding how to get the fan assembly up into the hole cut in the ceiling. I found it necessary to remove the fan exhaust nozzle and wiring box assembly module, stick it up in the hole, then move the fan box assembly up into the hole, then install the mounting screws into the fan body and dry wall ceiling (and of course, the joist above it), but only screwed in enough to hold up the fan. I then had to carefully slide the exhaust nozzle/wiring box assembly module back down into its mounting slots and reinstall the screw that holds it to the main fan box. I then tightened up the ceiling mounting screws. Due to my own carelessness, while I was doing the above procedure, I accidentally performed a structural test on the fan box. While holding on to the fan outlet housing module stuck in the ceiling hole, I lost control of the fan box while trying to stick it up in the hole also. The fan box went hurtling down and hit a spindle support rail, bounced madly spinning up in the air, came down and smacked the lid on the toilet tank, and then ricocheted into the bathtub! The noise all this created was deafening and it startled the dickens out of my wife who was all the way downstairs. After straightening out all the flanges that got bent up, I finished the installation and the fan performed like a champ! Congratulations on designing a very robust product, Panasonic. I highly recommend this product.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Darn near silent. Moves a lot of air, but is very, very quiet. Can barely tell it's on, and if the water is running, you can't hear it at all. Probably a little overkill for my small bathroom, but it certainly won't fog up in there with this thing on. I'm considering a timer, because it has already been left on inadvertently. It's really that quiet. Instructions weren't the clearest, but if you're going to be installing this yourself, you probably can figure it out. I would highly recommend that rigid ducting be used when installing this unit. It's so powerful that it will make the flexible stuff move around unless it is anchored in place, which might cause noise. If you want a bath fan that works without a lot of noise, get this one.

Seeing some of the reviews, I expected it to be quieter. I assume it may be because of the size as I have also gotten the 80 CFM model for my smaller bathroom and it is much quieter. It does do a good job with getting moisture out of the bathroom which is important so I guess I will not complain.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Works great and so quiet! This is a great fan. We had an electrician install it as well as a timer and some new lights to upgrade two of our baths. He said it was easy to install and will now be his go to fan for others. It does a great job of sucking moisture out of the room and is so quiet. A great product for a great price.

If you have a small bathroom I recommend the 80 CFM as it is practically inaudible. This is the best built ceiling ventilation fan I have ever installed. Heavy gauge metals and plastic blower parts. The fan is easily serviced or removed when the grill is removed.
