Customer Questions & Answers

is fan multi speed can it run cotinious

Asked by: weather
If you don't have an air exchanger this fan is a good fan to use to exhaust stale house air out. Yes, you can hardwire this for continues run.

Does this model have humidity sensing control

A lower cost Panasonic model claims auto sensing humidity control but is not in stock
Asked by: Rich
This fan does not have humidity sensing although there are replacement wall switches that act as the on/off switch for the fan that offer this.

Is this fan for remodel or new construction?

I am remodeling 2 bathrooms and my wife ordered 2 of these fans, I looked at the installation manual and it looks like it is for new construction only and I want to confirm or see if there is another part number for remodel appllications.
Asked by: Rocco1
I used it for remodel but do not see any reason why it could not be used during initial construction.

what is CFM

one fan has 80 CFM and another has 110
Asked by: PATSY
CFM = Cubic Feet per Minute. It is a measure of how much air it will vent per minute. Panasonic makes several different fans in this line. Pick the one that best meets the size of the room you are venting. Here is one sizing guide. Bathroom vent fans are rated by the cubic feet per minute (CFM) of air they move and should be sized to replace the air in the room at least eight times an hour. If your bathroom has an 8’ ceiling, the CFM rating for your fan should be at least as high as the number of square feet (5’ x 7’ = 35 sq. ft.) in the room. Personally, I would go a fair bit above the square footage to insure good air flow.

WhisperCeiling 80 CFM Ceiling Exhaust Bath Fan, ENERGY STAR* is rated 4.6 out of 5 by 109.

One was was 6" duct and another is with a 4". The duct length is the same. The difference in the noise level is very audible. The 6" duct is much quieter. In the colder climates this design will be sensitive to the stuck effect so FV-05-11VK1 would be more desirable because it regulates the RPM to achieve the desired level of airflow. FV_08VQ5 will be noisier because it moves more than 80CFM in the winter. The fan is very well built. The installation was easy since I have access to the attic. I replaced an older 2.5 sones Broad fan and the noise improvement was not as significant as I expected because I used a 4" duct for the first fan.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from Rehabbers beware This is a fine fan, quiet, well built, effective. However, the installation instructions, printed on a super small format, say virtually nothing about retrofitting an old bathroom. There is so much to say! Installing any fan in new construction is a piece of cake. Updating an old bathroom can be very tricky, especially with clearances and proper angling of the duct pipe. This is not a criticism of the fan itself, rather of the suits who presumably oversee production of the pathetic installation pages. I got lucky at several points in the installation, of course consulting online videos and other forums, but still, a few words about where to put the fan opening relative to the duct exit would have been merciful. I'll give it four stars assuming most of the buyers have plenty of room to work and do not need to worry about clearances very much

I bought the FV-08VQ5 as replacement for a FV-08VQ3 because it is described as a direct replacement -- and a Panasonic employee said so on the phone as well. But they are in fact quite different (for instance, the electric plug), and there is no way to install it without altering the housing space. So I had to return it. The way the manufacturers updates their products is very wasteful -- they update them frequently in a way that demands one to throw away a lot of things. And the first fan we got only lasted for 7 years. Our poor environment.

The fan is very quiet, I am very happy. I installed them into attic access ceilings. I cut out a 1/2" plywood mount with the fan hole cut to size and installed it over the existing fan hole in the attic. I used the plywood hole from the attic to cut the ceiling wall board to size. I installed the fan from the bathroom, screwing the box into the plywood. I sealed around the fan boxes, installed insulated duct hose and connected to wall vents to the outside. Previous fans blew into the attic. It was timing consuming, but worth it. The original fan openings were cut too big, letting air pass from bathroom to attic.

Had this bathroom fan installed in my guest bathroom and it worked perfectly. It looks good in the ceiling and removes all odors in the bathroom. I have 2 other Panasonic Whisper fans in my 2 full bathrooms and they are very quiet but extremely efficient in removing steam, moisture and bathroom smells. I was so happy with these, that I purchased the smaller one when my bathroom fan started making loud noises. Biggest problem is to forget to turn them off because they are so quiet. You might consider hooking them to the light switch so that you turn both the lights and fan off/on at the same time. I recommend this product and am very happy with it.

A noticeable difference between the original builder grade exhaust fans and the replacement Panasonic WhisperCeiling fans. Virtually no moisture visible on the mirrors after a long, hot shower and this light remaining moisture is very quickly removed after the shower. With shorter showers, or a lower temperature of the shower water, there is no moisture at all showing on the mirrors. (The moisture is only showing up on days when it is very cold outside. Warmer days - no moisture). The fan is so quiet we often forget to turn it off, so we will be adding a timer to the fan (could wire it directly to the light, but prefer it run for an additional period of time after leaving the bathroom). Very pleased with this replacement exhaust fan.

This fan is very quiet (so quiet at first we thought we'd left water running outside; no, it's just the very quiet sound the fan makes). It's also very fast and efficient. Our bathroom is on the small side, so that may be part of the efficiency, but for contrast: We used to have a loud exhaust fan that would take about 7-10 minutes to clear steam after a hot shower, even with the fan on the entire time. When I take a leisurely hot shower with this fan on, the mirror doesn't even steam up. I've also tried taking a shower with the fan off and then turning it on when I get out of the shower, and the room cleared (including the mirror) in less than 4 minutes. I can't speak to the ease of installation as we had an electrician put it in, but we are very happy with this fan.

It was installed in a newly remodeled bathroom/attic. Since day 1, if there is the slightest breeze the baffle in the exhaust opens and slams shut on a constant basis. This is obviously not operating properly. If there is a decent gust, the baffle will open fully and the outside air will be rushing in through the fan. One night there was 35 degree (F) air blowing into my house all night. As I am writing this the 10 mph winds are wreaking havoc on the baffle. In winter I have no doubt this fan will allow 0 degree (F) air gust into my house. Aside from letting outside air into the house, the noise from the baffle opening and slamming shut is awful. Trying to sleep at night proves difficult. The fan, 6" insulated exhaust duct and roof vent were all installed by a licensed professional contractor. I have contacted Panasonic about this directly but have not heard back from them. There is no phone number to call for tech support/customer service and their live chat feature on their website never actually connects you to an agent. So I had to email them. As of today (4/21/17) I have not heard back from them. I have multiple videos documenting this issue but I have no way to upload to this review.
