I have not found a heater unit that can be used over a shower. Fan and lights can be but they must be gfci produced. Once the heater is there that changes things.

My electrician says he needs to run a thicker cable to install this in place of our current vent fan. Is this accurate?

Installation is advertised to be easy, but now I'm concerned this is going to cost too much.

Answer:
They don't provide the electrical specs here. If your electrician told you it requires a "thicker" wire, he probably means it requires a 20 amp circuit, and your existing circuit is likely a 15 amp circuit. I would trust the electrician.

Answer:
No extra thick cable, but with the night light there needs to be 4 pair of wires: 1 for exhaust, 1 for heater, 1 for main light and 1 for night light with four wall switches. Extra thick cable would only be needed if he is going to use one 4 pair cable and not use the wires already in use for an existing unit.

Answer:
The lights, exhaust vent, heat, can be run individually. With the recommended switch you can run either the main lights or the night light, not both at the same time. All other options can be run individually or all at the same time.

Answer:
This unit can be wired so the fan, heat , and light have their own separate switches. Don't believe you would want the combination of the three running at all times? The combination switches can all be bought together and will fit in a four square box. This unit should also have a night light that is operational by the fourth switch.

I just bought this ventilation fan and discovered that there is this night light. Well, Home Depot should advise that you HAVE TO BUY THE ECOSWITCH 4 function (3 swtich) Switch in order to work this b/c the top switch is a double throw. I am not an electrician but after researching Panasonic's website and reading the specs and essentially googling this perplexing problem I speak electrician-speak and a SPECIAL switch is necessary. Home depot has it ON LINE and not in the stores (but shipping will take a week). My fan is already in ..so I can't wait. I just ordered it from Amazon w/ prime and will get it in a day. There is also a slew of comments on Amazon on the complications, good and bad points regarding installation. Hopefully, my electrician will be able to put it together. Suggestion for Home Depot is to put with the advertised product on the website, the necessary add ons that must be bought in order for the function to work properly.

Rated 4.7 out of 5 by 45 reviewers.
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Panasonic Whisperwarm exhaust vent/heater/light/nightlight "Whisperwarm" certainly is an appropriate name for this product. It can barely be heard. The combination of exhaust fan and heater work perfectly to keep you warm but keep the humidity from the shower fogging up all the mirrors. Works like a charm. April 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Bright light, low noise fan, and warm heat. Very nice product. It looks very nice installed and the light puts out a lot of light. The fan starts out at lower speeds and you can't hardly hear it. Once it spins all the way up it's still at a very nice level. The heat kicks right in and is nice and warm. May 13, 2016
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works well but still not as quiet as I would prefer I purchased the Panasonic WhisperQUiet fan without heater in the past and hoped that this one would be as wonderfully quiet. It works well but not as quiet as I would like May 17, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great all in one unit very quiet, night light has just enough light not to bright, I used LED lights to save more energy. May 3, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product The installation was fairly easy and the quality of the unit exceeded my expectations. This unit is very quiet and is well worth the money. If you are tired of the noisy, cheaper, contractor specials then try one of these. May 11, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by needs a redesign Due to the exhaust cone not coming off the fan will not go into a hole that would be covered bye the grill it needs a sloped back or removable cone to fit in and not need to repair the ceiling April 26, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Lives up to the 5 star reviews I bought this because of other people's 5 star reviews on homedepot.com, and I would say it lives up to my expectations and their reviews. Great functionality, it clears all the steam out of the bathroom instantly, it adds good light, and it also heats up a bathroom pretty quickly. Glad I spent the extra money on this model, without a doubt. Its big, make sure to measure your space. It fit mine just fine both from a ceiling area and depth. This part of my house was added on in the late 70's if that's any indication of construction type/materials. The only few constructive criticisms I have are that 1. someone said it took an hour and a half to install. Well I hired a handyman and it took him almost four hours, but maybe that's because he had to run wiring and cut a new hole in the ceiling (previously there hadn't been any bath fan), plus more time to patch and paint the holes. The 2nd constructive criticism I have is about getting the right switch. I'm a huge home automation person (use Insteon), and I couldn't find the right set of wall switches to make this perfect. I wanted a timer for the fan and for the heater, and a simple on/off for the light and I wanted it all in a double gang. Couldn't find something that did both, so did simple on/off switches for them. I didn't want the Panasonic humidity sensor because the bathroom is next to our bedroom and I didn't want it going on/off in the middle of the night. And last thing .. simple as it may be, I should have hooked it up to a separate breaker from our wall outlets, because day 1 my wife tripped the breaker running the fan, the heater, her hair dryer and her hair straightener. (please don't add comments about the high maintenance of my wife, I know, trust me). I'm gonna get the same thing for another bathroom in our house, without a doubt. May 10, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great product This product totally met for our needs. We purchased two for each of our bathrooms. They are super quiet, whether we are using the exhaust fan or heat. I love the night light feature. My only critiques are that you need to wait a minute or so before the heat comes on and the light is florescent (I prefer incandescent). These are minor issues and would definitely recommend to others. April 19, 2016
