Answer: 
It is not possible to say without seeing the unit. It could just be the diverter that needs changed or the entire faucet.

sometimes hard water scale will build up on the pull-up valve that allows water to flow to the showerhead. And sometimes it just wears out and needs replacement. Try soaking your spout in vinegar overnight to see if cleaning the hard water scale fixes your problem. Good luck!

Im not sure if I completely understand what you are trying to do, but if you are attempting what Im thinking then this spout is not going to work in conjunction with you hand shower unless the hand shower is the sole shower head in use on the main shower arm coming from the wall. If you are trying to run a main head and hand shower. This spout will not work for that. There are some spouts that have the Read More

If you are trying to run a main head and hand shower. This spout will not work for that. There are some spouts that have the 1/2 threaded mount for diverting water to a hand shower. If you use this spout you will have to purchase a separate shower arm diverter to use in conjunction with it if you want to be able to switch between main shower had and hand shower. Read Less

Thank you so much for your inquiry, The only tub spout we have with a hole in the bottom is part number 58259 which has a bottom hole to attach a hand held shower.

I saw YouTube and tried to follow the instructions exactly the same as the video but the metal ring didn't fit my nipple. The ring was too small.

Hi Deeyeye,
Most tub spouts are designed for use with a 1/2 inch nipple.
Your spout nipple is 3/4 inch, thus you will need to purchase a spout that will fit a 3/4 inch nipple.

Yes. Adapters are included for 1/2" and 3/4" threaded nipples as well as 1/2" copper pipe
