Is there enough depth for this in a standard residential wall (2X4 and drywall construction)?

There is an "assembled depth" specification of 2.25 inches and a "product depth" specification of 5.25 inches. Which of these specifications indicate the behind-the-wall depth?

Answer:
Yes, just fitted one in a clients house. However, the electrical box included is a deep one, seems a bit excessive. Make sure you are far enough across from the stud for the length of this box, it sits diagonal when fitted. I didn't allow quite enough and had to substitute a bit shorter box, no problem after that. It's a good product.

Answer:
I don't they would sell any if it didn't fit on 2x4 walls. Worked great on my 2x4wall with sheet rock. Actually, will only attach to drywall or paneling. Will not attach to a wall stud like new construction boxes.

The 2.25 inches is the behind-the-wall depth. There is plenty of depth to install this in standard 2x4 walls.

Answer:
I believe it was designed to fit in a standard 2x4 wall. I measured it's depth as 3-13/16" . (from the backside of the flange that rests on the surface of the drywall to the deepest point on the electrical box) A 2x4 wall with 1/2" drywall should be about 4-1/8"

I see a lot of reviews that are stating that what is in the picture is not the same as what they are getting. Has this been corrected? I would prefer a clean look with the coax wire coming from the wall connection to the TV.
Thank you.

Answer:
The picture I see is exactly what I got. You're better off not having a connection to the wall as this is one more connection to cause shorts or other problems. I can't see it at all unless I pull the TV off the wall even looking from the side, but I got a low profile mount.

Drywall Hole Size

This question is from 15Amp 125Volt Recessed TV Box Combo Surge Outlet/Brush Insert
Asked by
Benicia, CA

August 23, 2016
What is the Drywall Hole Size for TV1WTVSSWCC2?
This particular device (TV1WTVSSWCC2) isn't listed on Pass & Seymour's (P&S) website, but it looks a lot like both their TV1WTVSSW (which doesn't have either the cable access sleeve or surge protection, which we both want) and their HT2102-WH-V1 (which doesn't have surge protection but does have the cable access sleeve).
They's no Drywall Hole Size listed for TV1WTVSSWCC2 nor TV1WTVSSW. P&S does list Drywall Hole Size for HT2102-WH-V1 as 7.25 in by 5.5 in, which it turns out is too big for TV1WTVSSW.
Unfortunately, we went by the listing for HT2102-WH-V1 and cut the 7.25 in by 5.5 in dry wall hole before getting TV1WTVSSW from P&S and discovering that the hole is too big and the cable access sleeve won't work either (even though their reps assured us that the units were identical except for the cable access and would work).
Can anyone help with these questions? Specifically, what are the dimensions for TV1WTVSSWCC2: what is the size of the dry wall hole for it? BTW, can one order the surge-protected outlet separately? It's lised on P&S' website, but doesn't seem to be orderable. Thanks!
BTW, P&S and/or Legrand should be a lot clearer on all relevant dimensions of all these products, as well as what will work with what. It's been a nightmare for a non-DIYS like me working with different contractors on this.

Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Interfering with my t.v. This tv outlet was interfering with my 65 " 4k sony bravia tv,I'm not sure why or how it interfered but my TV was turning on and I couldn't shut it off unless I unplugged it,changed to a different outlet and haven't had a problem since! June 29, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great little kit, easy to install Very easy kit to install and use. Used it for behind a flat screen TV and didn't run into any issues (with the kit at least). The template built into the case is a nice touch too. Recommend for anyone that is using it for a similar application where they need an outlet and other accessory cables recessed into the wall. Just a warning in case it matters. The outlet has a very bright green light that I assume indicates the surge protection is working or at least there is power to the outlet. It's fine behind a TV however if you choose to use this more out in the open it could be distracting or annoying. Just thought I would mention... Would still recommend. January 19, 2016

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Even I could install it It take me a half an hour to put new windshield wipers on and only an hour and a half to install this and I am the worst person ever to do any type of construction work. if I can install it anybody in the entire world can install this, super easy straightforward just works highly recommended February 27, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by nice looking outlet We had an electrician install this behind our wall mounted TV. It laid nice and flat against the wall since the plug was recessed into the wall. January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Looks and works great Besides brush guard falling off whenever I move cables, it looks great. Very easy to install. January 5, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Measure first Second one I installed. This time came across a problem with internal wall depth between drywall. The included J-box being at an angle and fairly deep requires more depth between internal drywall surfaces than the average install. this install i had to compromise by allowing the J-box to project about 1/4" such that the decor plate does not sit flush to the housing. No big deal as it's hidden behind a TV. If you want a professional looking install, one should measure depth first by (drilling 1/8" hole and inserting a pointed rod like clothes hanger wire). I would say 3.75" between surfaces is needed so the housing can fit flush to wall. February 3, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Excellent product, easy to install, good value. This product fitted easily, the inclusion of the serge protection socket was really good. One comment, the brush lined orifice for the cables could do with being twice the length. Over all, excellent product, good value, nicely presented and easy to use. September 22, 2015
