The common name for a cord with male connectors on both ends is WIDOW MAKER... Even if you know how to protect the "hot' end, sometime, somehow, someone could be set up for disaster.......... Always consider what "could go wrong" to not have it come back on you or others.
Use proper materials in the way they are designed to be used.. It may be easy, (or hard) to "make it work", but WISE to make it work

Answer:
For most purposes, the red and black wires are interchangeable.
However, using a generator extension cord with two male ends seems like asking for trouble. Are you trying to feed the house circuits using a dryer outlet as the input from the generator? Bad Idea!

Answer:
It really does not matter because this is a 220v make up and both of those terminal are your "HOT" wires. But for Safety, I would mate up each wire to the corresponding terminal. this way, you don't have to worry.

Excluding bad practice, technically no. Your electrical load(s) don't know the difference but for the sake of 10 minutes i'd make both ends match.

Thank you for your question. The correct wiring for the 30A TurnLok Plug(L1430PCCV3) is X and Y are for the 2 HOT wires, your Neutral wire to W and Ground to G.

Answer:
I dont think I would for a 220V make up. Having the Grounds tied together is the most important. The Neutral and Ground are already tied together at the Main Breaker Box or Panel and you dont want to cause a "Ground Loop" which you possible could by making that jumper.

Thank you for your question. The correct and only acceptable way to wire this plug(Model # L1430PCCV3) is with 4 wires. G - Ground, W - Neutral, X - Hot, Y - Hot.

Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by works perfect for what I needed used to connect my plasma cutter to the generator. October 6, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by WAS EXACTLY WHAT I NEEDED THIS PLUG WAS JUST WHAT I NEEDED TO MAKE A JUMPER TO ADAPT MY GENERATOR TO MY 5TH WHEEL. April 27, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good product Good product manufactured well. I was extremely pleased with how well the screw clamps grabbed the wire. I used this with 8 gauge wire and it held very well. The enclosure screws are very course thread so there is no wasted time screwing the parts together and clamping the wire to the back. I have used this exact plug previously and will again I recommend this product March 9, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Worked for me. I needed a way to plug up my camper to a generator, and this worked great. February 23, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by I like Pass & Seymour, but . . . I paid more for a Pass & Seymour plug to get quality (which it is), but was amazed to find that the plug would not accept #8 wire (which it won't). What size wire might a prudent person use for a 100-foot cord on a 30A circuit? Huh? January 5, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Quality Product, Reasonable Price...Helpful Employees!!! Plugs can be confusing and the employees ensured that I got the right product the first time so I didn't make unecessary trips. Thanks Home Depot! October 6, 2015
