CUSTOMER REVIEWS

Rated 4.8 out of 5 by 6 reviewers.
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Outdoor Fireplace The fireplace kit has al the parts and in good condition. Takes about 2.5 days (need time for adhesive to set between layers of blocks (about 45 - 60 min depending on weather). Instructions are not very good. Images only no instructions as to how much adhesive, critical steps, recommendations, etc. just images to show how to stack layers. The statement recommend professional installation is their out. It can be done by a DIY just take your time have some help and yes a strong back. Again great product (you will need to wedge blocks to keep the overall project level. Would recomend a piece of 3 in x 4 foot flat iron to support blocks over fireplace insert. Also fireplace mortar calk to seal chimney to insert (1/8 gap all around). Might also like to have a chimney cap and fireplace screen (would be great if included with kit or have as options) October 19, 2015
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by great product easy to assemble with very clear instructions The kit came with very clear instructions and was easy to assemble. My only complaint was that there was not enough of the caulk adhesive that was needed for the complete build and I used conservatively in the initial part of the build. I think I may have been shorted a case, and had to purchase a second one from HD. Other than that the quality was very good and I was very happy with the final product. July 22, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Thrilled with the fireplace My spouse and I took this on as a summer project. Definitely not professionals in any way shape or form. We are empty nesters who enjoy a DIY project. We have had very limited experience with masonry of any kind. Started with an abandoned dog kennel that was 20+ years old and added the fireplace to complete the outdoor area. It took 46 hours and we took others recommendation and poured a concrete pad to start the project. Several things we learned: very good pair of glove, good chisel, it took us 160#'s of mortar and 10#'s of sand. The Quikrete Adhesive is hydrophobic and difficult if it is old. We took some tubes back and exchanged for newer tubes and there was quite a difference with the ease of application. Keep the blocks and the fireplace dry under construction (the adhesive just balls up if it is wet). When assembling the stacks of 4 bricks - preassemble/glue them. Had no problem cutting the bricks - just drilled them first and then cleaved them with a chisel. We added a fireplace cap by mortaring it to the top blocks. Really pleased. September 21, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Love this fireplace! I ordered the fireplace kit on-line and had it delivered to our local store. I ordered the stone and concrete from our local store. They delivered everything to my house for just 79 dollars. Much cheaper than the $945 shipping if I had ordered everything on-line. The only problem I had was that the glue supplied with the fireplace kit was old and was impossible to squeeze out of the tubes. Our local HD doesn't stock the Quikrete adhesive but they traded it out for SikaBond construction adhesive. That stuff is great, easy to work with and super strong bond. I was going to place the fireplace on an existing concrete slab but it was not very level and had a 1/2 inch dip in the middle. I did myself a favor and poured an additional 31/2 pad over the existing slab making sure it was dead flat and level. I followed the instructions and everything went together great. I did have to grind a little here and there between layers but nothing extreme, maybe one hour total time. We completed the entire in three days. Check out the pictures, I thing they speak for themselves. April 10, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Great product for the money. This fireplace was the best one I came across for the money. It was delivered on 6 pallets and was pretty easy to build. I would suggest saving the pallets to burn afterwards. I do not have any masonry skills, just a little common sense. And that is pretty much all you need for this project besides some basic tools and a little time. You do have to pay attention to certain aspects as you go along because the instructions are vague and just pictures for stone placement. I had to download them from the distributors website and they do not give you any pointers or suggestions. For example, as you set up for the fire box, it is a good idea to take a measurement of the width before you plan on setting it in place, this way you will not need to cut or grind any stone. Another thing that will help, is to have a bucket of mortar by your side. Even though you are using adhesive to set the stone in place, you will come across stones that vary in thickness. You can use a little mortar for build up to help keep everything level. After setting the foundation, it took myself and son-in-law about twelve hours to complete the whole thing. Not bad for a couple of DIYer's Overall, this fireplace was a great buy for the money and I would definitely recommend this to a friend. May 13, 2014
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by fireplace insert fit was great but don't glue mini blocks until it is in place Well pleased with product. great for the price. It did have extra blocks with it. October 3, 2013
