Answer:
Don't use the biodegradable plastic "safe for the environment" stakes. If you lay it down and water it to set it, it will not go anywhere. You could dilut elmers glue into a fertilizer sprayer too and spot spray it but don't saturate it. I use use a diluted elmers to keep mulch in place in some areas too.

No. You can buy hoops on-line. However, unless area is really steep you probably don't need to pin to the ground.

There is nothing included to hold the mat down. I use steel staples to keep it in place. It will blow or wash away until the grass is growing through it.

Answer:
Hello,
Stakes are not included with the Seed Starter Mat. Normally the mat will be able to hold itself in place, even on hills or slopes. You could use stakes if you would prefer or if your slope is especially steep.

Pick a shade tolerant seed - that's the issue. this is not dependent on the mat itself, but on your choice of seeds. Example - bermuda won't do well in shade.

Answer:
Depends on geography and seed type.. In Florida (my location) it takes 7-10 days to see visible growth using a Scott's grass seed mix for shady and high traffic areas. In other parts of the country it will more likely take 3-4 weeks. Keep watering regardless.

You are in Arizona !!! Does grass grow there ? ;-) The whole basic idea behind this product is to be able to keep the ground moist while holding seed in place. You must water it twice a day for atleast 3 weeks. Don't mow until grass is atleast 3-4 inches. Seed well before putting mat down.
I even over seeded on top of it abit.
You will like it !!

Hello,
The Seed Starter Mat helps hold seed in place. This is especially helpful when you are seeding a slope. Frequent watering is critical with new seed. Without the mat the seeds could wash away as you water. Normally seeds will germinate within 14 days.

No.
Prepare the soil. if the soil is rock hard, use a tiller and a rake to break it up and level it back out.
Spread fertilizer - 13/13/13 would be good for bare ground and is what I use. Water the fertilizer in a bit and when the ground dries spread the seed, roll out the mat, and water daily. Enjoy your grass.

No, this does not have any seed in it. You have to first prepare the ground for seed, put down the seed and then cover it with the mat. The mat is used to retain moisture from your daily watering of the seed and to prevent the seed from washing away.

You will need to use seed. Seed is not embedded. Critical to a good stand of grass is the ground preparation. I till the ground with a tiller or rake before I put my seed down. I like to break up the ground about an inch deep.

Hello,
The Seed Starter Mat does not contain seeds. You will need to purchase seeds separately. Once you lay the seeds you can put the mat over them. The Seed Starter Mat will help keep the seeds in place and hold the moisture to help the seeds grow.

Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Grass started sprouting in 4 days Easy to roll out over the seed. Grass started growing about 4 days in with twice a day watering. We are on day 12 now. Just wondering when the mat will start to disintegrate because I missed a few spots and need to put down some more seed around edges. Pricey product... We bought 5 rolls. July 7, 2016
Rated 1.0 out of 5.0 by Useless Product gets stuck in my dogs claws/paws. Doesn't naturally degrade and look really sloppy on a manicured lawn. Grass does not seem to grow up through it but grows UNDER it. Absolute garbadge. Don't waste your money on this August 24, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Good for protecting and growing new seed, but pricey. I've used the Seed Starter Mat in the past for small patch repair on my lawn and it worked well. Within 2 weeks I had grass sprouting up through the mat and it thrived after that. This year I decided to do a fairly major overhaul to my front lawn...I live in a townhouse so the front yard isn't all that large - it's just under 300 sq ft. I bought 5 rolls of this stuff to keep the seed from eroding away on the slight slope my yard has. It is definitely pricey at just over $18/roll...so I'm near $100 for the "small" area I need to cover. Working with the mat is tricky...the wind was working against me so that didn't help. LOL. Once it was down, I soaked it with water and it stayed put. Now I just play the waiting game for this and see what happens in a couple weeks (I'll try to update the review accordingly). For the price, I feel like others...I wish it covered more area. A good deal more. Otherwise, this product would be a better value for patching rather than trying to cover over a full lawn. If I spent nearly $100 for just enough mat to cover my townhouse front lawn, I can only imagine what someone with a decent size lawn would shell out for this product. There has to be cheaper alternatives. March 31, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by It does the job Used the stater mats in hilly areas. Wanted to pr vent downpours from carrying seeds away. July 13, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Great Green Grass I seeded grass on the side of my house on a slope and used the seed starter mat. The seed stayed in place and the grass grew right through it. Now I can mow over it easily. It also keeps moister on the seeds and it is easy to see if the grass needs some water. June 14, 2016
Rated 5.0 out of 5.0 by Very Useful for Seeding on Slope I used this on a slope on which I have not had prior luck seeding well. It went down easily (see "before" picture). I did water the area daily and in about ten days I had grass coming up through the mat. As you can see from the "after" picture, I do have some small spots where the seed did not germinate, but this looks a lot better than all prior attempts in this location. I would highly recommend the Pennington mat for difficult to seed sloping areas. It held in the seed and the moisture. October 17, 2015
Rated 3.0 out of 5.0 by Works but. These mats work very well. They're quite fragile so you have to put them down and roll them out. Seed grows great under the mat. I just spread the seed, spread some 13/13/13 fertilizer, and rolled out the mat. But they're 19$ each. That's 33 cents per square foot! Yikes! I need about 6 more for my side yard, but I'm going to use wheat straw instead - I might buy these if they were maybe 9 or 10$ each. June 14, 2016
Rated 4.0 out of 5.0 by Works well I used this product over both grass seed and wildflower seeds to hold the seeds in place on sloped areas of my yard. Seeds have sprouted and come up through the mat. I'm happy with the purchase June 7, 2016
